This appears to be the ground zero warehouse before.

Meanwhile, an official letter surfaced online showing that the head of the customs department had warned repeatedly over the years that a huge stockpile of ammonium nitrate stored in a hangar in the port was a danger and asked for a way to remove it.

In the letter, the customs chief warns of the “dangers if the materials remain where they are regarding the safety of (port) employees” and asked the judge for guidance on what to do with it. He said five similar letters were sent in 2014, 2015 and 2016. The letter proposes the material be exported or sold to a Lebanese explosives company. It is not known if there was ever a response.

I hope the Lebanese explosives company was close enough to the port to take delivery.

This guy is on the roof of the offices or mezzanine for the silos, at the northeast corner of those silos. The angled cable or tension arm holding up the roof is clearly visible in both the video, and in the pre-event overhead images at Google Maps.

You can see pockets of inflammable or explosive material detonating, cooking off, burning, whatev, then a concentrated area of solid flame that intensifies, becoming the main detonation itself, towards the left of the frame, as he’s running to escape.

Pretty lucky video device, in that it survived the blast, and avalanche of grain from the much taller silos, and the explosion itself, which dug a new harbor where the warehouse used to be, and capsized a ship aboit a thousand yards east of the crayer at the next jetty.

An article describing the events leading to the avoidable blast:

Greed and corruption can have bad consequences.

On that twitter link you posted, there’s a video posted, 3rd one down, by someone named Khwaja. When you play video frame by frame, a guy is shown dressed in maybe black athletic biker’s wear. Was he holding a microphone in one hand and phone in the other?

It’s between the :03 - :04 section, have to manually move the video frame by frame to see him better.

Poor fellas. Guess they didn’t survive it, so close to the explosion. But I was just curious what he had in his hand. I guess it was nothing nefarious. The video is no longer found on Khwaja’s page.
