ask your dealer how he keeps his or her records. Are they compiled in an old-fashioned bound book, or are they using one of these twenty-first century software packages?find a small, preferably home-based FFL — one who still keeps paper records — and transact exclusively with that FFL dealer.
Good advice any time, but especially with a virulent anti-2A fascist (David Chipman) running the ATF.

I have several Class III weapons, and the ATF knows everything anyone buys, from the Form 4473. They have records.

Just because you bought a gun from an FFL dealer at some point doesn't prove that you still have it. It is perfectly legal to sell or give that gun away to another private party without keeping any record of any kind, or notifying ATF or anyone else of that transfer.
Let them try to prove you didn't sell it....
Of course, that's one reason that requiring paperwork for private sales is a red line, because it is a necessary prerequisitw to confiscation.

So the ATF does.
If you have paid for anything with a debit or credit card, there is an electronic record of what you bought. With some good algorithms, they know what you have better than you do .
