Well, it seems a few years ago I read somewhere the magnetic north pole was moving rapidly toward the east.. I wonder if that could be a serious thing..??

True polar wander is when the geographic poles shift substantially, so the outer wrapping of Earth tilts over. Nothing actually changes in terms of Earth's magnetic field, but the shifting rocks will record different paleomagnetic data as they move.

Claiming the angular momentum of the earth is less stable than the magnetic field is bizzare.

Magnetic fields are easy to shift. The total angular momentum of the earth is very difficult to shift.

The energy needed in shifting magnetic fields is orders of magnatude less than shift the orientation of the entire crust relative to the angular momentum of the earth!

I don’t know how you conclude this based solely on magnetic records. You’d have the same geologic magnetic record if only the magnetic orientation changed and the crust remained fixed relative to the entire globe’s 23.5 degree tilt with respect to the plane of the ecliptic.

It makes sense that the crust can be dragged by a faster moving core, but I’m not sure how you’d detect that, other than by seeing some “creep” with GPS.

Don’t know how many people here remember the 1960s cartoon “Roger Ramjet”, but this was the plot of one of his cartoons. A pair of space aliens called the Solenoid Robots kidnapped all of the elephants in the world and placed them on the equator. All of that weight concentrated in one spot caused the Earth to to tilt 45 degrees so that the North and South poles were now located where the equator had been. (Hey, it could happen!)
