I would also add that component branches of GE were also held to a "meet your numbers or else" policy, but no effort was made to improve poorly performing subsidiaries, they were just cut loose at the next opportunity. GE would buy a company, milk profit out of it for a time, then shed it as soon as its performance dipped. It's a very parasitic approach; glean the profits off someone else's hard work but make no effort to improve and keep the profits coming beyond the very near term.
I do think Elon, unlike Gates, is innovative. Time will tell if his innovation is profitable and if Elon makes good financial decisions in the meantime.
I agree with your statements about what motivated Elon.
What if I’m not panicking AND I’m waiting for Jesus? :)
That’s perfect. :)
Like.
I contracted at GE while Neutron Jack was in charge. He told the Aerospace division. Your sales are off by 10% we will be reducing staff by 10% (not me of course) He delayered some 2 or three layers of managers just as i was hired. I liked the guy.
My 25 year old F-150 is still trucking. Taking it to the shore sunday.
This is a shot across the bow by Musk. If I worked at Tesla, I’d get my butt back in the office and would forget about “working remote” for a while.
You are part of the problem...do you work for Biden?
I share your grief rktman. USN: 1974 to 1983. Who would have thought?
“The only thing new in this world is the history that you don’t know.” Harry Truman, the 33rd President of the United States, a great student of history.
Musk should think outside the box on this one.
Caterpillar Inc. has a huge surge need for engineers, but for them most of the year is slack time. So it sets them to work on paperwork projects, to save a lot on recruiting. But this is wasteful.
A better option for Musk would be to move this 10% (or more, if there is a recession) to a side business that is both recession resistant and scalable, so he can use it as an overflow buffer for Tesla.
Of course, this *assumes* that these 10% are *worth* retaining, and are not just paper pushers and p.c. purveyors of poop.
I’m not worried about Gods wrath
Sadly, those who miss the rapture will suffer another’s wrath as well...
“Therefore, rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to you, O earth and sea, for the devil has come down to you in great wrath, because he knows that his time is short!”
Rev. 12:12
Your sales are off by 10% we will be reducing staff by 10%

Great managers have a way of making their decisions seem reasonable. Every organization needs a way to get read of dead wood.
Not everyone interrupts things to imply a rapture. What I do know is my Savior suffered greatly and I am not exempt from the worlds hatred
I think the next Solyndra, at the cost of the Georgia taxpayer, is going to roll right through. That facility will be under some form of construction and be an eyesore for decades to come as it will have no other purpose.
A testament to electing an absolute corrupt moron to a position where he is allowed to make decisions.
I did learn something over the past weekend....since the state/Kemp are now making all decisions with regards to the facility, since the locals got scared after screwing over their neighbors, that the environmental impact statements have all been waived. I remember reading about the water table out there and how this facility will be built right on top of or near enough to it, that it could have a very detrimental effect to the local water source.
Guess that doesn’t matter when you’re about to launder $1.5billion.
And one person that is key to this whole thing, Bruce Williamson, has been able to fly under the radar. State Rep for the area. Ran unopposed and folks actually voted for him.
With voters like that, exercises in futility are the norm.
An interesting fact was learned at a local civilian police academy here. Gang members in the state of Georgia are growing in numbers and it's a disease that hits both our public schools and the safety of the community.
Their influence in Georgia is growing thanks to help from open borders fentanyl and police departments that are understaffed thanks to 2020 attacks on police and BLM pressures to lower police funding in "woke" cities where Leftists rule.
Now I learned one of the methods of growing these gangs is the use of music videos to spread their propaganda.
Which reminds me of the research we did to inform FReepers about the billions of waste and fraud related to attracting Hollywood video business to Georgia:
So hearing about gangs and their videos makes me wonder if gangs are another interest group being "paid off" by Kemp, Abrams, and the rest of the uniparty politicians in the State House.
Wrap your mind around that possibility.
As it is, the two automakers are in far different spots on the EV manufacturing line. Tesla seems to be making more cars than they can sell, while Ford is ramping up to start making what they are projecting to sell.
There is probably a ceiling on the EV market that is currently unknown. What will be really interesting is when the US auto retailers cease offering new gas engine cars in favor of a full line of EV's. That's supposed to happen in about 10 years or so.
