A pretty cool "technical". With expensive "armored" systems like BUK, TOR and PANTSIR proving vulnerable to anything larger than a pistol, this seems a good idea. The US has mounted Sidewinders and AMRAAMs on Humvees and trucks. With the advent of miniaturized radar and electro-optic systems, integration would be easy.

US has reason to believe Ukraine uses cluster munitions ‘properly’ and in accordance with agreements - Pentagon

Kyiv handed over to the Pentagon the first report on the use of US-supplied cluster munitions. This was reported by CNN with reference to a representative of the Ukrainian authorities.

The report, according to a Kiev official, contains information on the number of used.

BRIEF
The Armed Forces of Ukraine are now unable to conduct a successful counteroffensive, says Polish President Andrzej Duda. “The question is: do Ukraine have enough weapons to change the balance of power on the battlefield and gain the upper hand? Most likely the answer is no. They most likely do not have enough weapons. And we know this, because now they cannot carry out a decisive counteroffensive against Russian troops,” he said in an interview with The Washington Post

The full quote with the question:

Washington Compost: Could Poland fight a combined arms operation without long-range weapons and without air power? Because that’s what we’re forcing the Ukrainians to do today. What does Ukraine need that it’s not getting today?

Duda: Ukraine has been supplied with long-range artillery, and it is being supplied with long-range artillery to this day. … One could go as far as to say that Ukraine now has much more modern military capabilities than Russia.

The question is: Does Ukraine have enough weapons to change the balance of the war and get the upper hand? And the answer is probably no. They probably do not have enough weapons. And we know this by the fact that they’re not currently able to carry out a very decisive counteroffensive against the Russian military. To make a long story short, they need more assistance.

As has been said before - no Western army can do combined arms, absent air power. UA is in impossible position of unrealistic expectations, thanks to Biden dragging his feet, hands trembling in fear at The Might of Putin.

“ Does Ukraine have enough weapons to change the balance of the war and get the upper hand?”

Not yet. They first have to painfully fix and drain away the remnants of the old Soviet arsenal, and bankrupt Russia, to establish post war conditions that will secure them and the donor nations, on a more enduring basis.

The job won’t be finished by briefly liberating some territory, while Russia still has the means and will to keep fighting. Russia must be strung along until its conventional military capability and financial resources are exhausted. Next year.

Sorry.

Rumors of Ukrainian pilots training today on Aero L-159s. Sending another message to Putin.

My guess is the L-159 does not require U.S. approval under ITAR.

The L-159 can carry Aim-9s and Aim-120s. However, the Aim-120s would probably need to go through a certification process.

The L-159 can carry:

CBU-87 Combined Effects Munition
Mark 82 general-purpose bombs
Mark 83 general-purpose bombs
GBU-12 Paveway II
GBU-16 Paveway II
AGM-65 Maverick

I hope the rumor is true.

From Wikipedia:

“On 11 May 2023, Czech President Petr Pavel, in a radio interview, offered the Areo L-159 to Ukraine. Subject to a decision by the Czech government, President Pavel said “It is worth considering whether we could provide Ukraine with our L-159 aircraft. As direct combat support aircraft, (the planes) could also help Ukraine significantly in the counteroffensive”… It is also an upgrade from the Aero L-39 Albatros that the Ukraine Air Force uses.”

They could deliver 500lb and 1,000 pound bombs, including laser-guided bombs that hit within a yard of their target, and others that can home in on GPS jammers, to open the door for GPS guided weapons.

I think that Czechia has about 24 of these aircraft active.
