I knew a man, now deceased, who joined the navy. Was such a troublemaker he was given his own room (the Brig) on the ship. Deserted (charged with AWOL) and was scheduled for an “Undesirable Discharge”.
His dad, with a legit medical discharge, and a Congressman managed to get the adult “boy” a “medical discharge” for a high school football injury reinjured in the navy.
With that so-called “medical injury” he never worked another day in his life, lived on the dole for over 55 years and is now buried in a National military cemetery. When his wife retired at 62, who worked all her life at minimum wage jobs tried to get on his Social Security she found she could not as he had not worked long enough to get Social Security.
