Okay, so just how did you get the smiley on there? I know a few codes from the character map, (© ™ ® ) but where's the smiley? What font?

I must be missing something. In Wingdings, a capital J makes a smiley. I have Firefox set to Times New Roman, though changing the font to Wingdings did nothing. Oh well, now I have something new to try and learn.

Michael Crichton died a few days ago. Last night C-SPAN replayed a talk he gave in 2005, following the publication of State of Fear (on climate-change fanatics). Very interesting.

Hathaway has been hoping for solar cycle 24 to be BIG, peaking EARLY, and peaking HIGH for a long time now .....

No wonder he is promoting the few spots in October: since cycle 24 seems to be late, small, and with few sunspots.

BUT ...

He is probably right, activity does seem to be increasing - which may mean we are not into a multi-year (Dalton-like) minimum.
