And we are a danger to the planet with our CO2 emissions?

And we are a danger to the planet with our CO2 emissions? AlGore could do a public duty by jumping into the volcano and thus plug it up...

That is a WONDERFUL photo. Almost looks like some sci-fi artwork of another planet! Great!!
And major volcanoes can cause the climate to COOL because of the ash emissions blocking out the sun. Of course, this eruption, and countless others going on - can be used by the the likes of Al Gore to say things like “Well, yes, the temperatures have NOT gone up like the models foretold. However, these volcanoes are causing cooling - but once their effects have dissapated - boy oh boy, manmade warming will REALLY take off then.”

This might be an interesting note; Anak is a common word in the Malayo-Polynesian area. It means 'child', thus Anak Krakatoa mean 'Child of Krakatoa'.
If history repeats itself, expect big things from the kid.

I like that. The North Star is just below the horizon at the base of the volcano, so of course the view is due north.
As for CO2, how many times does it have to be pointed out that volcanic emissions do not dominate emissions due to fossil fuel combustion? Do the math.

I went to the Big Island of Hawaii a couple of months ago. I was disappointed that the lava floes are not currently visible from the location they let you view the activity from. You can only see some steam explosions far off in the distance and reflected red color in the steam clouds at night.

FWIW, Krakatoa was the name of the first volcano. This one, as has been stated, is
Anak Krakatoa. In Bahasa Indonesia the word
anak means
child. Thusly, the name of the volcano which has arisen over the site of the previous volcano (which lost its head in the 1800s) is
Child of Krakatoa.
Just thought I'd throw this tidbit out there. Don't quite know why.

You ought to come over to Indonesia. You can get up close and real personal here.
One time on Bali, we decided we’d go view a volcano. But we were on vacation and weren’t paying attention to matters of dress. My son asked me if his tank top (he must have been around 10 at the time) and cut-off shorts with sandals would be okay. Sure! I forgot that a volcano is a MOUNTAIN. It gets COLD toward the tops of mountains.
My son is 23 now. I don’t think he’s forgiven me yet. LOL!

I’ll make a note of that! I’m in Melbourne so it’s a very doable vacation.

Let me know and I’ll try and meet you there. I’m in Sentani, Papua, Indonesia, just a wee bit north of y’all.
