Yeah, but I’ll bet a round trip ticket from Sydney to Christchurch will still cost the same.

F=ma Acceleration...that's it, acceleration. I was thinking of the...uhh...instantaneous velocity. Yeah, that's it.

I guess we can expect to see the airfare between the two go down a bit? I'd worry more about the Australian pilots overflying the runways. If they use GPS, that is.

Question: Onstar and GPS devices ...
will they have to be "recalibrated"? ...
and each time this situation happens in the future anywhere in the world?
To: slickfree
Question: Onstar and GPS devices ...
will they have to be "recalibrated"? ...Well, surely the GPS coordinates on maps should be changed. Elsewise, you might miss New Zealand by a foot.

:') I was going to post a pic of
Horace Greeley but it turned out that he didn't coin the phrase most closely associated with his name. :'(

Once the energy is known in Joules, it can be compared to the explosive energy of TNT. One ton of TNT has an energy of 4.2*10E09 Joules.
This must be modified after studies reveal the extent/ length of the fault line that moved, and other pre and post-major quake activity. Here is another article that describes that process: Tsunami Earthquake 3 times larger than first thought
