COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Researchers here have discovered the pivotal role that volcanoes played in a deadly ice age 450 million years ago.

Bob Bass once redid Lord Kelvin's heat equations for the Earth using a maximal possible figure for radioactive elements and came up with a number in the range of about 200M years. The would be the oldest our planet could possibly be. Other than that, large-scale volcanism was an effect of ancient catastrophes, and not a cause of them.

Atmospheric CO2 was 20 times higher than today and life was flourishing. That is something measurable and is the real news.

The other news is that cooling kills.

One of the fallacies of the AGW mania is the assumption that recent climate conditions were some ideal norm. There is no norm and no ideal climate condition. As you've indicated, the climate condition most conducive to living things probably includes a temperature somewhat warmer than at present.
