Guinness is sometimes a little bitter, with a touch of tannin or something.
The Murphys is much smoother, with a hint of coffee and smoke.
My stout is like mothers milk - a creamy texture, slightly sweet, but still with the boldness of a good stout.
More like a food than a drink!!
And I was inspired to open one!!

Hey, I know I ain’t no saint and deserve a lump of coal, but PLEASE leave me another case of Grolsch bottles this year!
Sincerely,
djf

PS: I left you some cookies and a cold one at the foot of the stairs!

I will certainly look for it. TOP Foods here in the Northwest has a pretty wide variety. Thanks for the tip!

I tried homebrewing an ale but it came out pretty mediocre. Think I need to let the water sit and aerate out all the chlorine before I start.

MacAndrew’s Scotch Ale?

Very hard to find, that rare brew. At one time I could buy a case every month. Now I can't find it anywhere!

Clearly, you never drank a pint of Guinness in an Irish pub, in IRELAND.

Last I saw it in the states was about ‘99, distributed by Caldonian Breweries.

USED TO BE that alot of euro brewes were crowded out by the major players, the Buds, the Coors, etc.

Now the microbrews have entered the picture.

The only place near Seattle I can find the Murphys (and only if I’m out of my own) is Top Foods.

It might have something to do with how well the brews can survive the time and extremes of shipping. I would be very leery of shipping mine any great distance and guaranteeing it, just because you don’t know how it will get handled, etc.

I recall when I was (much) younger on the east coast you couldn’t get Coors, because it was advertising it was bottled “With no Preservatives”

A good Coors back then was a premium item.

Yeah Guinness does not travel well.
I worked the bars in London years ago, every Irish person would say “this does not taste like Guinness.
