is still very noticeable, and marks a steady drop in temperature over the next thousands of years.

Kill a few more furry critters, fur up , and there was no problem.I think that a lot of science is basically politically correct hoo haw. This theory is still mere conjecture, without the geological evidence to support the extinction of humans due to glaciation in the rest of the world. The bottleneck is in the minds of those looking for funding.

Look at the Aleutian Eskimos. They survived cold beyond our imagining, yet the scientists think that crustaceans and coastal plants saved mankind? What a laugh.

The problem with the Toba Megavolcano is that it was so sudden and widespread that it probably caused nuclear winter for about 6 years. This would have destroyed the plant life that animals needed to eat and would have created worldwide starvation. Only a very few seem to have survived. If the move into coldness, many could move and adapt, but this was too sudden and worldwide.

Meant to say, if the move into coldness is gradual.

I see. Maybe. But the interesting thing about cold is that it seems to be able to come fairly quickly, unlike warming.
But surely not quickly enough to erase populations of ingenuous humans who are trained survivors in hunter and gatherer societies.

Try to visualize six years of nuclear winter. No summer, no vegetation, most animals starved, most trees dead, no nuts, no roots, probably cannibalism as the last resort.

Sorry, that happens only to critters who do not have a brain much larger than a golf ball.

Have you ever lived outdoors say camping in below zero weather?

Nomads follow the food, the rivers , and down to the sea. They did it seasonally in most locations, as did every native tribe from Florida to Labrador, wintering on the coasts.

This 6 years of winter wouldn’t come close to exterminating the human race like it would the dinosaurs.

No, the bottleneck is genetically confirmed. Whether it occurred in Africa is a matter of archaeology.

DNA mutation is normal. Harmful mutations simply don’t usually get passed along. However, most DNA is unused, or of mysterious purpose... something like 99% of it. So this DNA accumulates harmless mutations at a rate that is almost like clockwork. Nonetheless, there is strikingly little variation among humans in this DNA... small enough to determine that we’re all descended from the same tiny population a couple hundred thousand years ago.

Furthermore, we all inherit another nucleic acid, RNA, from our mothers only. Sexual recombination does not occur, our RNA is a clone of our mothers’. This makes it very plain to see how many generations apart from each other we are. The surprise: we all have the same maternal ancestor only about 20,000 years ago!

Heh, yeah, right, I started it... I always post non-political topics in Chat (I used to use Bloggers on occasion, but standardized). Once in a while I get rollin’ and post something in News, typically it will be related to either the War On Terror, Islamic/Iranian activity in Africa, something about Israel, or something about the economy.

I’m pretty sure I’ve never posted in Religion, and unlike the trolls (again, you are not a troll), I haven’t hit every single thread in Religion with spam. This is unlike the trolls on the history, archaeology, paleontology, science, and even astronomy threads.

Every last one of those bastards should be given a warning, and if they don’t comply, they should be banned. Pretty sure it isn’t going to happen though. There’s been an upsurge in troll activity, as there was last year before one of the more venal and banal loudmouths was reined in.

Here’s one of my responses from about four years ago, the same boneheaded idiocy was going on then, and apparently was already old at that time.

Hi SunkenCiv,

Really, you honestly believe that Noah Arks just an old story? I can't understand the unbelief of otherwise intelligent people today. Do you also claim that we were somehow created out of some puddle of primordial ooze? You can't be serious.

I've just got to laugh. SC, you need to wake up and smell the vespers Amigo.

How can you ignore the tide of 7,000 years of human history? A history that acknowledges one God Yahweh, his only son Jesus and the Holy Spirit of God. How can you conclude what's at odds with everything the Western World was successfully founded upon? Even todays Europeans insist upon making this part in their latest historical EU papers. What evidence does the 'Good News' lack?

God created a modern miracle; these United States within the 'enlightened hands' of the Founding Fathers. He totally transformed the modern world and created the USA in His own image, yet you think this perfection came about from the minds of mortal men. This shining city on a hill is merely a cheap imitation of the heavenly city of Jerusalem, which is positioned to desend upon us all very soon.

It's blasphemy to tell the patriots on this forum that our right's don't to us out of the hand of the almighty, righteous and loving hands of God Himself. You need to watch yesterday's Glenn Beck show SC.

Mankind failed to create a lasting republic over 7000 years of existence until now, right here and right now. You have the gall to claim that the Founder's were somehow mistaken?

The FF's knew very well that the hand of God was upon them all during the bith of the nation. Thomas Jefferson, allegedly Bill Clinton's favorite liberal President spent his days upon his knees. TJ signed every letter he wrote as an adult, signing off that he was living 'In Christ' Did you know that SC? I didn't until today. The Federalist Papers and the private correspondence of the FF's reads like a prayer book.

God empowered the FF's to act as noble human sacrifices. They beleived completely that they could not be defeated, afterall 'to live is Christ, to die is gain'. This evidence proves the Founders acted against their own vested interests, treasonously defying King George and the entire British Empire. They knew that they were authoring their own death warrants and the death warrants of every member of their families. Why would rational otherwise high society winners in life, successful family men decide to sit down together and write their own communal suicide note? Why would they discard the 'good life' they were enjoying as leading members of colonial society to become tortured, impoverished and hunted men for their entire lives? Without the resurrection of Jesus Christ they were forever dead men. Without His promise of resurrection they were wasting all that remains of their existence

The answers are not obvious unless you know and remember God's Word. The two commandments Jesus gave us before He returned to the RIGHTHAND of His father, rang true in their hearts and minds.

'Love your God with 'all' your heart, with all your strength and with all your soul. Love your neighbor as yourself'

Can anything be more illustrative? The FF's were imitating the act of Jesus' becoming living sacrifices. Obediently following Jesus' second commandment to love your neighbor as yourself.

Look at our real national treasures, they read like chapters straight out of the pages of the Holy Bible. Only a living breathing God could inspire the words written in our Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Were the authors somehow fooled, tricked and bambozzled by religion?

To deny the deity of God with all the evidences here right before your very eyes is impossible to comprehend. Today, we know more about every aspect of cosmology, genetics, His-tory, technology and the human struggle. Leading scientists from every hard science background have bent their knees and confessed; 'Jesus Christ is Lord'

No excuse remains possible in light of the enormous leaps in knowledge made by mankind over the last one hundred years. With the possible exception of the Apostle's themselves, we know more today about God than any generation that's lived before.

I'm sorry if you're offended by any aspect of my message to you. The Word of God's telling us to prepare ourselves to live out the last chapter of human history prefigured accurately in the New Testament. This document shows us 300 plus times that only Jesus Christ could be the messiah.

Further, would you be surprised to learn that the Holy Bible says we are living 'as the days of Noah'? Rebellion against God's everywhere SC. I find it impossible to ignore the discovery of Noah's Ark in Turkey's mountains exactly where the Bible tells us it rested after the flood. I also find it impossible to ignore genetic research supporting Noah's flood. When mankind was decimated by the flood and reduced to a select few 'breeding pairs'.

Everytime the trowel stikes the ground in the Middle East these days another relic confirms the historicity of the Word of God. Did you know the Bible also predicted this essential truth. 'All creation will testify to the glory of God'

He'll be back very soon. We are indeed living at a time that's exactly 'like the days of Noah' SC, 'unless those days be shortened, no flesh could survive'.

Are you ready? If you'd like, I'm willing to help you and yours get ready before it's too late. Private message me, if you like. The latest stories are just to great and overpoweringly marvelous to post here. Take care my friend.

Ok, so you're a bit, shall we say, touchy re the intrusion of religious notions into non-religous threads. I happen to agree for the most part and as you're obviously aware I rarely participate in such discussions because they invariably devolve into food fights. You're also right that nobody EVER wins and the banter serves only to harden the positions of the combatants.

Now, it may be that I misunderstood(wouldn't be the first time) your reply HERE, but it looks to me like you were dissing my belief that the scientific community™, along with many of their conclusions is bought and paid for by a morally bankrupt government. And if that weren't bad enough, they feel compelled to co-opt others in the scientific community™ from around the world into the nonsense. In fact many federale grants REQUIRE the inclusion of scientists from elsewhere. Our tax dollars hard at work in many cases promulgating flapdoodlery not only to confound the unwashed here, but to debase, through science, every living thing in the world who exhales that noxious and toxic gas, CO2, not to mention the expulsion of methane -- for starters.

The temporary atheist and socialist leaning Twain just said it better than I ever could.

Cheers,

Gotta wonder why the creators of the graph chose to display it the way they did, eg, the ice volume. It took me a couple of takes to figure out they inverted the scale for ice volume relative to the temp lines. Weird. How's about this one:

Converted to a "gif" that made it about half the size of the "png" also. Just doing my part in the battle to reduce bandwidth...

I've had a theory for some time that the flood stories have a basis in fact, the rise in sea level since the last glacial period. If you assume humans lived mainly near the coasts and many were in S. E. Asia as blam believes, then the relentless rise of the sea must have been a severe shock as homes and lands disappeared.

If we all had the same maternal ancestor 20,000 years ago, then the New World was not settled then, and Europeans are not descendents of Cro-Magnon, but of the replacements.

Do you have a link?
