The Gulf of California goes pretty far to the east.Where the Colorado empties into the Gulf of California is still southwest of the Rocky Mountain-based headwaters in Colorado. The Colorado does not flow southeast to the Gulf of California.

I could have sworn that I learned in school that the Nile was the only major river that flowed North... Lots of rivers flow North. Look at a map of Siberia or Canada. Even here in the US.
