"A more practical solution would be a quality water filter. A company called Berkey (www.berkeyfilters.com/) sells a ceramic filter that will purify 3,000 gallons per replaceable element. I have no affiliation with them, but I may buy one."

Water purification is a BIG consideration. Even a Brita pitcher is a help, but having a good system with a reliable source of water is ideal. If electricity goes out, so does any municipal water system. It always helps to plan accordingly. A fast-flowing stream is safer than a lake or pond.

Oh my goodness. I see a EMP - End of the world - thread about once a week. Hence use of the term ‘fixation’.

Could an EMP storm (IF it ever happened) hurt some areas of the US.
Yes.

Anything at all that YOU can do about it?
Nope.
I know there is nothing I can do.

I am more worried about a crackhead busting on my door (has happened) or a house fire (largest single disaster in the US) or loss of utilities hitting Anchorage than ‘possible’ EMP storm hitting the Earth.

And while CONgress may not find it funny - they have done ZIP about the “issue”. Or at least they have taken the same amount of care as they have for:
Civil Defense
Locking the borders
Expelling illegals
Stopping bad airline pratices
etc, etc, etc.

So, ya, LOL.

YMMV.

I know Congress has done nothing, and it’s a travesty and indefensible. Just a month or so ago a Senate sub-committee declined to pass on a bill that would have funded measures to harden the electrical grid. That grid was originally designed by Thomas Edison, and parts of it are very old.

So, what happens to all the Compact Fluorescent (CFL) light bulbs when they’re hit by an EMP?

Gotta wonder about that and all the little LED flashlights and such. It’d really suck if the electric grid survives, but none of our freakin’ light bulbs worked.

"

1. Banks will lose all records and will not know what loans they have, nor where to collect them, or have the communication skills to organize the collection of them. (This is a good thing!)

2. Electronic bank balances (including 401Ks and stocks) will disappear and people will be left with the money they have on hand, usually paper, essentially worthless.

Hell, isn't this already happening on a large scale? lol ;^)
