Another underwater Eden alert...a few thousand years to get dissolved, eroded, washed away, silted up, eaten up by microorganisms, good luck with any actual discoveries.

But as always, it’s great copy!

" the whole region from the Gulf around to Sri Lanka and from there to the furthest parts of Indonesia ~ was above water, highly fertile, and long suspected of having accommodated the first stages of civilized life ~ it even has a name "Sundaland".

Sundaland

"But how could such highly developed settlements pop up so quickly, with no precursor populations to be found in the archaeological record?"

That's the 'Sixty-four dollar question' bump!

Long range migration & trading is easier along the shoreline. You can resupply by boat to suport movement. Considering the rise in sea levels its not surprising that we have huge gaps in human archeological history.

I often thought that we might still be just recovering frmo Noah’s flood

Look at the ‘badlands’ in the USA northwest.... some pretty stunning landscapes that look like undersea effects on a HUGE scale

Fascinating stuff.

Definitely fits in with blam and Oppenheimer's thesis about Sundaland.

I agree.

It’s amazing that the people who don’t believe in Noah’s Flood will go on and on about how huge areas were underwater in the past, but they make sure that you know the think, and want you to think, that it was was eleventy zillion years ago.

;-)

Thanks for the book recommendation, Blam. How about recommending 5 more on topics relevant to this ping list? Anyone else chip in too. Lots of brain power from GGGers.

Some very good books I have read:

* The Tarim Mummies JP Malloy, Victor Mair

* The Mummies Of Urumchi Elizabeth Barber

* Noah's Flood Ryan & Pittman

* Exodus To Arthur Mike Baillie

* Origins Of The British Stephen Oppenheimer

* The Cycle Of Cosmic Catastrophes

These are some of my favorites.
