In a mere 150 years everyone alive at present will be dead.

Quick, hide under you bed!!! Don’t come out until it’s safe!!!

To facilitate control of the radiation exposure from Megabequerel (millicurie) amounts of this radionuclide, the use of a 0.25 cm thickness of Pb will attenuate the radiation emitted by a factor of 1,000.

Do tell!

When I am injected with radioactive material for a nuclear stress test, I simply amuse my great-grandkids by glowing in the dark.

Beats .25 cm. thickness of Pb all to heck!

It has been harder to find news about it since it no longer is “breaking news”. There are a few freepers who have kept up with this and posted threads periodically, you might try searching on the keyword “fukishima” (except you should spell it correctly) ;-)

You mean when you post a new thread, or when you post a response? When posting a thread, put the short name in the box titled "Source" and put the long URL in the box titled "Source URL."

In a response post, you can use the super secret code. I could tell you what it is, but then I'd have to kill you....

J/K!

< A href="www.long_name_of_url_that_points_to_your_article" >Short name of article < /a >

< A href="http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/2776447/posts" >LINK TO THIS THREAD< /a >

Comes out like this: LINK TO THIS THREAD

I put spaces between the "<" and ">" and the content of the code in my example. If I did not put the spaces in, you would not be able to see my example.

There was a paper a few weeks ago that pointed out that the center of the Earth, (That part 4,000 miles beneath your feet.), has huge amounts of molten uranium, sitting there chain reacting, and is creating a large part of the heat generated in volcanoes.

I can only suggest that you sleep well, since you don't have to go to Japan to die of radiation poisoning.

Like the author of this chicken little piece, (Who, by the way, admits that he doesn't know jack about nuclear power.), we are all going to die.

“Finding creditable news of this event is hard to find, your thoughts please.”

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

The word you are looking for is “credible”, not “creditable”.

Illiteracy and gullibility are highly correlated.

As you can see from posts on this thread, most people cannot deal with a serious discussion of this issue.

Since this thread represents the opinion that all concerns are by definition invalid, I’ll provide you with a few links from the ‘other side’ of the issue.

In Japan, the official position is that only alarmists are concerned by radioactive contaminants. I believe that is the default position in the US gov as well. A reporter tried to get soil samples tested for radiation in Washington and no one would touch the task - no university, no organization with the needed equipment would test it. The resources we need to know to what degree the US is impacted will remain unavailable to us. Hawaii has fed boron to it’s milk cattle to get the level of radiation in milk down below FDA limits. Milk in VT was dumped shortly after the accident due to exceeding the FDA limits for radiation but as I said, there will be no testing and no access to testing to the average citizen. A scientist wrote the following article for Veterans today:

http://www.veteranstoday.com/2011/05/28/fukushima-how-many-chernobyls-is-it/

Basically, he notes that Fukushima contains 50 times the amount of radiation that Chernobyl contained. Ignore comparisons to Hiroshima and other bombs - those release a tiny fraction of radiation compared with Fukushima. Likewise ignore any happy talk about Chernobyl - it’s hell and it will continue to be hell for ....who knows how long.

Europeans have been going to Fukushima and running tests that the Japanese officials don’t want them to run. Some of the European agencies have been running dispersion models showing what COULD have been the dispersion pattern over the US:

http://ex-skf.blogspot.com/2011/09/radioactive-materials-dispersion-model.html

You may want to check out Chernobyl - the health effects etc. There is a good video interviewing people who were there and lived through the aftermath. It’s called ‘The Battle for Chernobyl’. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiCXb1Nhd1o

The Soviets made it illegal to report deaths due to radiation for 3 years after the accident and this has made death toll estimates hard to make. And many people still live in contaminated regions because there was no place to relocate them and they suffer cancers etc. today the same way people did back when it happened so the death toll continues. A few researches got together and collected all medical studies for the region and evaluated fallout and abrupt increases in disease and miscarriages, genetic abnormalities (including Europe etc.) and put it into this report:
http://www.strahlentelex.de/Yablokov%20Chernobyl%20book.pdf

You may want to read the wiki page re this report before you decide whether you want to read that PDF: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chernobyl:_Consequences_of_the_Catastrophe_for_People_and_the_Environment

What surprised me the most about this report is that it detailed the way that contamination harms humans in ways other than cancer - it really put cancer into perspective in that ‘early dementia’ and countless other debilitating illnesses that result from exposure but are not known among the public.

It’s common to encounter sneering posts commenting that there is radioactivity in your body (potassium), in bananas (again potassium) and in medical tests. These are irrelevant - no one is medically tested with radioactive cesium or strontium because it has too long of a half-life and causes too much damage. You can ignore posts talking about external exposure (air travel, and x-rays). They are also an apples to oranges comparisons. According to the National Academy of Sciences BEIR VII report, there is no safe level of radiation exposure - small exposure results in a small increase in risk, there is no threshold below which radiation exposure is safe. (dental xrays and medical tests do increase risk of cancer, that’s why there are precautions taken and these tests are only administered when deemed necessary and ‘worth the increased risk’.)

Here’s a link to BEIR VII

http://dels-old.nas.edu/dels/rpt_briefs/beir_vii_final.pdf

Here’s the introductory paragraph to the report:
“BEIR VII develops the most up-to-date and comprehensive risk estimates for cancer and other
health effects from exposure to low-level ionizing radiation. It is among the first reports of its kind to
include detailed estimates for cancer incidence in addition to cancer mortality. In general, BEIR VII sup-
ports previously reported risk estimates for cancer and leukemia, but the availability of new and more
extensive data have strengthened confidence in these estimates. A comprehensive review of available bio-
logical and biophysical data supports a “linear-no-threshold” (LNT) risk model—that the risk of cancer
proceeds in a linear fashion at lower doses without a threshold and that the smallest dose has the potential
to cause a small increase in risk to humans.”

We have radiation in the environment - that is an unavoidable risk (except the radiation routinely released in small amounts or ‘burp’s from nuclear power plants and other man made sources) and that is not the problem under discussion re Fukushima. The problem with Fukushima is the massive amount of radiation it is releasing into the environment- three molten cores of radiation are still emitting radioactive materials toxic to human life and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future because no one knows how to stop it. Ignore the rage and contempt of those who say that all concerns re radiation are by definition irrational etc. - that opinion is not supported by science, including the medical studies conducted by the man who discovered Plutonium and who, as a physician, was asked to study the safety issue (John Gofman). He concluded there is no safe threshold for radiation exposure. The nuke industry hated him for that, still does. So that is what you face - studying the unpopular views and looking for information extrapolated by foreign agencies based on wind patterns at the time of the Fukushima meltdown - checking Chernobyl health effects and then trying to imagine what may happen to humans in Japan and other countries, including ours, as these molten cores continue to emit radiation and wondering how much contamination the US has and will receive. As someone who grew up in the area ‘downwind’ of NV testing once commented, we are all ‘downwinders’ now.

While I appreciate your posting of the radnetwork - I want to point out that it is volunteer basis - anyone can perform this task with any level of expertise or agenda. Cross referencing radnetwork data with the the very limited gov testing of rainwater during March and the limited produce and milk testing performed by UC Berkely revealed no overlap - in other words, radnetwork is not sampling information well enough or with enough training, or is being supplied by agenda driven volunteers to ‘match’ UC Berkley lab results showing strawberries and Kale with cesium contamination- IMHO, Radnetwork just didn’t turn out to be the useful tool people intended it to be but is instead used to imply greater validity and assurance than it can actually support.
