Our black cat is solid black. Shorthair. Black hair, ears, nose, foot pads and whiskers.

When there’s low light in the house he’s a cat shaped void.

He also hides in shadows and under furniture pretty darned good too.

So that is what the change in usual sweet meow means!

I am new to Catdom. I actually thought Fancy Feast would buy her favor. (Obviously I am a dog person.) Time to break out the tuna, I guess.

She is still cranky.

We had a sister and brother, Kinky and Straight (because of their tails). At the age of 18, Straight developed a neurological disorder that took his life within a few months. Kinky could not stand life without her brother, and died exactly a month after Straight.

I miss my little black furballs.

Aww, looks just like our little Hermie (Herman Cain), right down to the tummy patch and white “armpit hairs!” He’s the gentlest little creature I’ve ever known. He thinks he’s my daughter’s little rag doll. :)

And yes, I do think the real Herman Cain would get a kick out of the fact that we named our black cat after him. What can I say, we’re fans!

My girl is named Montana. We adopted her from the local Humane Society. She was found dumpster-diving at a McDonald’s, & she’d recently had kittens. She’s been with us about five years now. She took a long time to decide we were her forever family. She was always sweet, but rarely purred. Now she purrs almost every time I pet her (still a little reserved there), but if I sneeze or make a noise like I’m distressed she comes over & gets in my lap to comfort me. She also summons me to come out & play ball with her, particularly in the winter when it’s too wet to play outside. I love this little kitty to death!

And I have no doubt Herman Cain would appreciate your naming your kitty after him. Herman Cain is one of my favorites, also.

McDonalds! We got Hermie at a McDonalds drive-thru, where two teenage girls had found him and were holding him wrapped up in a sweatshirt. So he was our extra special Happy Meal prize. Although after we named him we thought Burger King would have been more appropriate. :P

He is staying as an outside cat for now, much to the displeasure of our indoor cats that would love to have outdoor privileges.

We used to let Stella go outside on the deck of our boat and check on her every ten minutes or so. She would lie across the covered dinghy that was up on davits on the stern. People walking by on the dock used to stop and admire her - which she loved (and expected!). She fell in only four times in the three years we had her on the boat. When we sold it and moved into a house, her outdoor activities were OVER. That's been 7 years now but last night she tried to sneak out when I was fetching the bird feeder and I barely caught her before she nearly got to the steps. Guess they never forget that freedom, do they?

Just be aware that the outside kitteh can pass on diseases and pests to the indoor ones if he gets let in. It really is better for all concerned if he is brought inside for good. They DO get used to it eventually. Outdoor cats have a lifespan of only 3-5 years compared to 10-20 for indoor onlies.
