It might be of concern to everyone.

Let's back up a little: asteroid about to strike the Earth in a number of hours determined by NASA issuing some sort of a release. What form should my "concern" take?

Darn, I forgot that my rifle fell off my boat while fishing last year.

You’ll never have to worry about it. You know they’ll never issue a release on something like that.

Oh pfffft. I was rushing to check my popcorn supply. Perhaps if you tied a ribbon from your rifle to a safety pin on your shirt you wouldn’t lose the boogers. :p

Watch the video in comment #1 because it displays the orbital model you're interested in.

I recommend you follow the poster on youtube in comment #1. That's where I learned about it.

You would do better to totally ignore ANY video from bpearthgrotch, er, watch..

As a source bpearthwatch (and his incessant videos) is a nutcase site that also will tell you about herculobus, niburu, sixteen foot tall aliens living in a cave in Arizona (or is it Nevada - well, it's out there according to this nutcase) and a logical rule of thumb says that if your source is skewed in one area there's a REAL good possibility that it is skewed in most (or all) other areas as well.

A bottle of water that is 'only' half methyl alcohol is still totally lethal...

Your mileage may vary.

For you alarmists out there, you should note that 2014 AW32 entered the Earth-Moon system at 1402 UT - 1102 EST - on 10January 2014. On 10 Jan. 2014 at 21:38 UT - 1638 EST, the near-Earth asteroid 2014 AW32 reached a minimum distance from the Earth of about 190,000 of km, that is just 0.5 lunar distances. No risks at all for our planet... At 0515 UT today (0015 EST - 11January 2014) it departed the Earth-Moon system. That means it was outta here twelve hours before this was posted... (Source for this info is in the links in the original post.. I note that bpearthgroth's video has been removed, but that is no real problem, it was not worth the time, unless you really want to manufacture doomsday scenarios and have another sip of the 'water'...)

Darksheare's coffee is better for you..

live commentary by our scientific staff, starting at 17:30 UT, which is 11:30 AM Central Standard Time today.

Umm... Today is 11 January, 2014.

Please note the following information. Pay close attention to the DATES..

The online, free session is scheduled for 10 Jan. 2014, starting at 17:30 UT.

But you are correct that 1730 UT is 11:30 AM CST...

If you check your own sources you will find this 'event' was over even before you posted this, no matter what your favorite videomonger says..

Again, your mileage may vary, but how about some water?

I mostly want to know if it’s something to pass along to my husband.

The weather is nice and I wouldn’t mind being outside looking through his telescope.

I hide information if I’m able when it is really cold outside!

He had commented that he saw two falling stars at work last night— I’m wondering if it was any part of this.

But here it's been cold... ;-) Not to mention that when the last bunch of meteors passed (Perseids? ) we had cloud cover every night.

There are a LOT of near earth approach objects. If you bothered to watch the bpearthgrotch video, you will note that he makes everything into a 'we're all gonna die' scenario so warn your husband that that particular source is highly questionable..

If there are any chunks of Ison out there we will be going through their path in the next week or so, so there MIGHT be something to watch. (I'm sure some nutcases with a EweToob channel will create a doomsday scenario for us about that too... ;-)

Here's some more meteorites to watch. If you wait or depend on NoCmpromiz or dirtboy to tell you what or when to watch, you'll never get notified.

Here's you one more to watch for, roughly a 45 mile wide asteroid from 05:53 AM UT until 6:06 AM UT ( 01:53 until 2:06 AM EDT New York Time) .Check out Cloudy Nights Telescope Reviews of 163 Erigone in 2014.

Yeah, you don't warn anybody about anything, do you?
Take a look at this video describing just how close 2012 DA14 came (17,200 mile close at about 17 thousand miles an hour at 130,000 tons) on Feb 15, 2013, from Discovery News.
That was not only between Earth and the Moon, but also between Earth and a fair amount of our communications satellites.

Do you think that Comet 2013 A1 (Siding Spring) , instead of colliding with Mars, on Oct 19 2014, 18:25 could be sling-shotted into a totally different trajectory, like Asteroid 2012 DA14 wsas on Feb 15, 2013 ?
