Plate Tectonics has been going on essentially from the when granite crusts formed from molten/semi molten surface material. This, by extension suggests the early presence of oceans and atmosphere which would have been blown away by the solar wind, etc. without the protection of the magnetic field. Plate tectonics are closely related to magnetic field generation.
I know this is kind of geek stuff but I find it fascinating.

Brian Williams said he was there, then.
Just ask him.

Yes that too!
given four billion years the green commie “liberals” would still be doing study groups to determine ecological impact on any and all plans to “save the planet”

Gee, so what else could scientists possibly be “wrong” about?

Shouldn’t there have been a magnetic field for as long as there has been a spinning iron core? That would be pretty much as long as there has been an Earth.

My favorite statistic is that the Earth weighs 13,170,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 lbs, yet a 100 lb liberal thinks he can save it. Can we say ‘God complex?’ It remains to be seen whether God is laughing or frowning.
To: Seruzawa
Yeah, it’s the motion of the currents in the mantel from the core to the crust and back again as the heated material cools the generates the field. It’s hard to see this heat exchange without a crust.

That's more than Rosie O'Donnell.

3.45 billion vs. 4 billion; what’s .55 billion among FRiends, anyway?

Exactly, that’s all it takes. But, not being an expert, I was sitting here speculating why geologists would think the early Earth’s core wasn’t spinning? The Earth had just formed. Were the interior dynamics of the planet too chaotic at that point or something? I’m glad you asked the question.

But when did the earth start spinning? When God said so.

Apparently, if there is convection of the outer core not much spin is needed.

Lol, I’d like to see this giant iron ball we live on start rolling down hill, and a liberal like Rosie step out in front of it to save it.

Fascinating, thanks. Still trying to digest it all. It’s much more complicated than I thought. Will definitely be reading that article more than once!
