Not just curiosity, but animals and birds. Both are made of delicious meat. Hunter Gatherers need meat. Remember the human brain size 60,000 years ago was the same size it is now. They didn’t have to remember all the stuff we know now or work the complexities of modern social life. They could concentrate that brain power on finding food.
A man (or woman) could think about why those birds or fruit bats fly Southeast at sunset. Where are they going? Then climb the highest mountain on the Southeast side of Timor and look! More islands!
