Tough choices, beer or homework?

NBC, garbage passed off as news.

They mention a full-time student who works part-time and “has no food”. The utterly obvious solution is to work full-time and attend classes part-time. Stunningly stupid report.

BALONEY!

I was a hungry and homeless college student for years! Came from a very poor family! Father died when I was 14! Had it ROUGH!

I WORKED my way through 13 years of college! Never went into debt! Worked nights, weekends, holidays!

I KNEW that nobody could do it for me! I knew that I had to do it myself! I worked hard, hard, HARD!So what did all that hard work do for me?

It taught me PLENTY!

I learned self-reliance, self-respect, self-confidence--and many, many, many other priceless things!

And what did I get out of all this?

PLENTY!

AND I was a millionaire at age 40! A mulitmillionaire at 43!

My life has been HEAVEN ON EARTH!

Why?

In large measure because I learned to work hard--and because I HAD to work hard!

Don't come to me about the "poor little hungry, homeless college students"! I was one! It taught me PLENTY!

Mrs rktman worked weekends away from school and worked as a dorm monitor during the week for extra money. Took off a semester to gather some cash for the next one.

They are ‘hungry and homeless’ because they are too busy doing BS other than what they should be doing. Taught for 8 years at university level and most of them hardly wash their arses because they too busy doing sh*t other than what they should be doing. I used to call it ‘Get-out-of-jail-free’ syndrome cause there is NO ONE to tell them when to go to bed, to wash their arses, to get up, to go eat, etc. Most college students have ACCOUNTABILITY issues up the ying yang.

Well it appears an additional degree in African studies would serve this individual well. Are tattoos free now?

If you can’t afford to go to college, get a job, save up your money and then go. Don’t expect anyone else to care about your cash flow problems.

In most cases, “no food” does not literally mean no food. It means “none of the expensive food that I was used to eating when someone else was swiping the card”.

Or get into a trade school and after you graduate, earn $40 to $60 per hour.

Students can apply for RA (Resident Assistants) in college-usually in charge of a floor of freshmen and sophomores and receive free room and board. Students in the college that I teach at can work for 30 weeks in the library at $12.00 an hour for 20 hours a week. That is $7200-and goes a good way to pay college expenses.

There are ways. Too bad it takes a little effort to discover them. :-)

Trump says economy “booming” and job market “best ever” for college students. Not according to @hope4college:

➡️ 45% couldn’t afford food over last 30 days.

➡️ 56% couldn’t afford rent and 17% homeless at some point in last year.

“Correspondent Jacob Soboroff even went so far as to claim that “The strong U.S. economy is a myth to many American college students.””

What does a great economy and a college student who more than likely doesn’t work have to do with each other?

You're right, no self discipline whatsoever for many. During my time (back in the 60s and 70s), many freshmen got blind drunk every weekend and often didn't last the year. Later, when I was teaching at the university during the height of Vietnam, you would think there would be more motivation to stay in school, but I had a student who F'd every exam including the final. He had the nerve to come to me begging and crying, ..."if you flunk me, they're going to send me to Vietnam." --"You should have thought of that before; you have flunked yourself." I never knew what became of him.
