Islam is like the star trek BORG, when they captured other tribes and groups they assimilated the new workers and technology.

BC and AD are Christian methods of dating BCE and CE have been around long before PC was invented and has been used by non-Christian and scientists for hundreds of years. I first came across its use in the mid-seventies reading a Jewish text. A Jewish Chaplain visiting the base educated me on it's usage. Simcha is correct in this case and you are wrong. I am not a fan of Simcha so I do not say that often.

Good analogy, except the cultures and technologies tend to die after four or five generations under Islamic oppression.

Thanks for the kind remarks and the thoughtful contributions. This slab of glass was news to me a few hours earlier. :^) Irrespective of when it was made, clearly it isn't 'Islamic glass' (the Turks didn't invent public baths, or coffee, either), or it wouldn't be in a Jewish burial complex.

Yes, by all means, let us ala 1984 adopt ancient calendars. Do you prefer Sumerian, ancient Chinese, Hindu, ancient Japanese, Mayan or Islamic or other?
As long as it is not Western Civ, RIGHT?
(both names serve you well)

BCE and CE are from western civilization. That fact that you don't know this shows you are not part of western civilization, which comes as no surprise.

BCE and CE are Orwellian newspeak. They attempt to erase foundational Western Civ; but thanks for (attempt) playing.

No, as a matter of fact, they aren't. What *you've* been doing in this topic is Orwellian. And it hasn't worked out for you, but nice try.

Never argue with a fool, lest ye be mistaken for one, as well.
I’ve had this argument many times in the past, with links to the earliest known usages, to no avail.
I’m certain that there are foreign readers of American articles who get equally exercised about our notation, when they read it.
Any more, I just try to point out the foreign source of an article, and state that that is their national convention, and let it go at that.
There is none more ignorant than he who refuses to learn.
I, for one, simply enjoy reading the articles, and do my best not to get my panties in a wad over side trivialities.

>>Y.ou need to have ovens that can sustain 1500°C over long periods of time. Who would ever mix sand and lake salt and throw them for days on end into a blazing fire? Its a mystery.<<
>They were probably trying to come up with a new decorative flux and stumbled over the formulation for glass<
If not a flux, then maybe someone who wanted to level out the floor of a kiln with something they thought would stand up to the firing temps.
