Before Zantac and Omeprazole, baking soda was the only thing I used for acid stomach that used to double me over in pain. Everybody told me it would kill me, I’m 80 now and never felt better.

chemically speaking, Sodium Bicarbonate is a salt.
So are calcium carbonate, sodium nitrate , sodium sulfate and of course sodium chloride
Table salt is sodium chloride
Helps with gout too.
My dad did the same he lived to 93. RIP.
Apple cider vinegar creates the seemingly paradoxical effect of making the digestive system more alkaline, as the stomach sees the inrush of acid and reacts by stopping acid production.

I use a European product called Crastan Effervescente (con succu limone), which tastes good as the name implies and gives you the sodium bicarbonate. There exist similar American products.
Stomach acid contains hydrochloric acid (HCl)
Baking soda reacts to stomach acid with the sodium combining with the chlorine in the acid to produce sodium chloride -- table salt.
Recently I took a good dose of soda water at bed time to reduce acid reflux at night. My dosage was about a teaspoon or two in some water. Omneprozole reduced the problem but not completely. I still had some reflux occasionally but the acid was gone
So far as I can tell, it did not affect my sodium level number

For the record...... Sodium bicarbonate is produced by the stomach to counteract excess acid. It is therefore “natural”

Serious clinical acid reflux and other upper gi disorders usually require 40mg doses of omeprazole. Adding a little sodium bicarbonate improves the absorption of the PPI.
She directed him to a kitchen cabinet and told him to help himself to whatever he needed.

Baking soda saved and restored my Dad’s kidneys...taken every day in the same dosage you use. He also had acid reflux and it reduced that problem too, now he doesn’t get it at all. The young doctor who was going to prescribe some new medication for the failing kidneys was originally skeptical the ‘old school’ stuff would be better than the meds but now he is a convert and ‘prescribes’ it for everyone.
You put coffee on your prostate?
.........
Funny thought.
No I’m just drinking coffee. It goes down quick.
That is amazing! What a blessing.
What, exactly, did the baking soda do for his kidneys?
Thanks for posting these articles.
I mix the baking soda with apple cider vinegar and lemon juice plus something to add taste and stevia.
I had some GI problems in my 20s, and out of desperation, found baking soda to be the best solution.
The past couple of years, I’ve been taking a swig (~tbls) of apple cider vinegar before bed, or after an acidic dinner, and have rarely had the need for baking soda since.
That is, not waking up with acid reflux in the middle of the night.
While baking soda is a relief for excess stomach acid, even in the homeopathic world they warn against long term usage due to the sodium content.........
