[I’m the biggest coward on earth and I’m no expert on NYC but to me any part of Manhattan that’s north of 110th Street is “a bad part of town”...particularly after dark. ]

That covers all of Columbia University.

I'm sure she was going to someplace specific just because of the time.

Maybe phone records will tell. It's not like a marijuana hit is urgent.

No park in New York City is nice or safe after dark. Because it is right across from the dorms, criminals probably know that the college kids go there after dark. Criminals watch people and places. They stake out sites to see if they can use them to commit their criminal acts. I guess I have a biased opinion on things when it comes to safety and security because I worked in uniform in NY State’s prison system for 25 years. As rookies we were told: Criminals/inmates have 24 hours a day to think of illegal things to do. They’ll scope you out...watch your movements, look for vulnerabilities. Be aware and alert at all times where you are, and who is around you. I’ve been retired for 16 years, and that sense of security has never left me. It’s sad that so many people have no idea how easy it is to become a victim.

One article I read said she was attacked just before 7 p.m. Whether it was 5 p.m. or later, it starts getting dark around 4:30 p.m. and before 5 p.m., it’s totally dark.

You need to read more about the whole deal Bob before piping off

These kids had been a menace in south central Harlem which is fairly gentrified now for some time and store owners complained

Many young whites live now where she was killed

Morningside park is a very vertical park dropping down from One block east of Amsterdam ave and Columbia and St Luke’s to Manhattan ave in Harlem

110th street is the southern border

Let’s assume she did go into the park to buy some weed ....they don’t enforce weed laws there anymore btw....I’m sure folks do that all day everyday that’s not why she was killed

She could have been going to a Bodega

She had the misfortune of running into this gang of wannabe wildings

We have raised legions of naive young women simply ignorant of the dangers out there

Blame anything blame culture that squashes real think about black behavior and blame black illegitimacy

"This is why is should be legal and you can just go into a store and buy it"

Yeah, so you can be mugged and robbed on your way back home. Don't think there wouldn't be individuals scoping the store out, and waiting outside to follow you to take what you just bought, along with everything else on your person, and perhaps even your life.

That area is not as bad as it once was trust me....it used to be very bad

I was there recently and was surprised how gentrified it had become

This little bunch of thugs were kind of out of their element

They belonged north of 125th

And that may be where they came from it’s only ten blocks north

Thanks for your insight.

Don't "jog" in areas that are prone to muggings and definitely don't seek narcotics in troubled areas that are prone to muggings, day or night.

This "empowerment" culture is creating a bunch of misguided "stronk" women who think they are impervious to society's dark-side and can overpower anyone and anybody. Life is not a Disney fairy tale, people are constantly after marks who ignore their own limitations..

That said, violent feral youths should hang.

Columbia not only has unarmed security people watching the area, it’s got armed cops of its own. Given how compact the area is, it’s a wonder that they have any issues, coverage-wise. Then there’s the fact that NYPD’s 26th precinct headquarters are literally hundreds of yards away. This kind of stuff goes unsaid, but I’d think Columbia is higher priority than any of the nearby public housing projects, in terms of NYPD resources. Then again, maybe De Blasio’s NYC has changed things.

So the police union is leaking rumors in a robbery and murder case in which other suspects are at large !
Unreal .
what was the point here ?

Is DeBlasio and police looking for cover ?

The neighborhood had been overrun with feral ghetto savages for months and nothing was done .
Store owners and residents attacked and complained .
Crime had spiked .

So we smear the clueless dead college coed.

I hope her lefty Va Professor father keeps his trap shut and not blame Trump.

"He said the kids literally ORDER weed over SnapChat and go out to the car to get it, like UberEats."

And those kids have no idea that from the time they leave their dorm room to give money to a strange person, or persons in a car, that something could happen to them, that might end up with them never getting back to that dorm room.

The police are angry because this has revealed the staggering crime stats of that park..highest in the city. And it’s a small (but long) strip of land? Most of which is a cliff and unusable. But the school has tennis courts and facilities down there, so students do have lots of reasons to be there other than buying drugs. I doubt that she would be stupid enough to go look for a drug dealer there, and the stuff is certainly available on campus.

The police union is just angry because this makes them look bad.

Police respond to crimes, not prevent them. If that is the case, every Police department in every city or town would be liable for every crime that is committed.

The core of this disease lies in the legislature/City Council and courtroom of every city/State.

Everybody wants street cred because the morally inverted trash culture currently oppressing us normalizes transgressiveness as the mark of authenticity.
