The guy may be a kook, but PhDs go by the title of Doctor.

And his PhD is not in medical equipment.

Thanks, I finally saw the link Texas Fossil provided. I was looking at the wrong one. Right shirt but he also had a gray t-shirt underneath. This one has his shirt closed so you can’t see if he has a t-shit on at all. 8>)

Only in personal fluffery or academic fluffery.

And a PhD in engineering presented as a “doctor” in the context of a disease is ridiculous. His opinions are legitimate to stand on their own or their not. His academic record is impressive. No reason for misleading fudgery.

But 100 people with equally “strong immune systems” can have the same flu and only one has a cytokine storm. It’s rare and not fully understood, but observed.

Calling it an “overreaction” is essentially calling it a dysregulation.

My question to you is define what a “strong” immune system means and how it is measured.

I didn’t say his PhD was in medical equipment, I used that as an example of the category that is PhD, which is in biological engineering, is used for. Nanotech treatments would be an example of what such a degree might be applied for.

He is not an MD, which is the what the term “doctor” is used for in this context.

That is an area of research. His degree is in biological engineering.

An overreacting immune system is one that reacts in a manner that is disproportionate to the threat. The cytokines are an essential component of immune system function, so the very fact that they go into overdrive is the sign that that person’s immune system is too strong. In my opinion, it is not necessarily a sign of dysfunction but rather that on a graph of amplitude of immune (cytokine) response, those people’s immune systems would fall on the right side of the bell curve.

In the 1917-1919 H1N1 pandemic, the number of deaths was driven up by the numbers of young healthy people who succumbed to cytokine storm. My stepdad’s mother died of it.

Of course there is a lot we do not know about immunity. For example, what do we know about why a very small number of people develop Guillaum-Barre syndrome after exposure to certain pathogens, notably influenza?

I see from your previous posts that you are apparently a vet with a recent MS in data science. Thanks and congrats.

You are a relative junior in the academic world. The correct, perfectly impressive and not misleading title for the thread would have substituted “PhD” for “Doctor”.

He seemed to be honest and knowledgeable. While he did patent the name email, email was really built by numerous people over many years. He may have also added some functionality as well. So take his claim on that with a grain of salt.

As far as his knowledge on the immune system, he certainly appears to know the subject well, but then again I am not some who is qualified to critique or analyze what he says. I did share it with others though, because what he says makes sense.

You are a relative junior in the academic world.

I also have been an adjunct professor since 2007. I've worked in research organizations many times and have been published multiple times. I also work with many academics. I am not, and do not consider myself an academic. Still, I know how titles work.

Your weakness is showing in your attempts to deflect and take a factual conversation to one of my resume.

You can take your "junior" and stuff it.
