No. It survived in the wild long enough that it would already have been dead by the time it was taken were it rabid and it was barbecued before the Health Department could get at it and the HD didn’t push it. I am glad she got the shots. I don’t trust official judgment a hell of a lot.
The rabies “postexposure prophylaxis” is typically started within 24 hours after contact with the infected animal. If the pig was not apprehended immediately, the shots would have been started. They are not as bad as they once were... They consist “of a dose of human rabies immune globulin (based on weight) and a series of 4 vaccinations (5 vaccinations for immunocompromised individuals) in the deltoid area over a month period.

” A group of fruit-eating bats attacked mango orchards in several villages of Pakistan’s east Multan district, damaging the mango crop spreading at a vast area, local media reported on Wednesday.”
That will teach him. Stay away from Pelousy.
Our daughter was bitten years ago by a mother racoon and, until the animal was located and tested negative (that’s another story), had to have several anti-rabies shots. They’re no longer given in the abdominal muscles. She received them, I recall, in the deltoid muscle. Still painful, but not like the legendary torture we were warned about as kids.
Good....really good. BTW, it is a she.

Is the bat OK? Did it need shots?
And if you’re bit on the butt?
