Really sucks, Eddie pretty much invented fretboard finger tap. Added a whole new dimension. Once his head caught up to his fingers he really became one of the best ever.
I have had may fill of 2020 too.
I saw Van Halen open up for Fleetwood mac at UPS college in Tacoma WA and then after that when they opened for Black Sabbath in Seattle.
They stole the show both times.
Saw the college appearance for free because we rushed the door!
Never liked the band as much after Roth was booted or quit or whatever.
Being a guitar player...it was all about seeing and hearing Eddie play the guitar....he was amazing and had a huge influence on hard rock guitar.
I am pretty deaf, Eddie probably helped cause that...on top of my own stupidity.
RIP. Sad.
While he made it famous, I saw Steve Hackett of Genesis doing it years before.

Men my age, late 50’s are getting throat cancer in droves from giving out oral sex 35 years ago to the ladies and getting hpv.
I lost 2 aquaintances and 1 fraternity brother in the last few years and none smoked ever from throat cancer attributed to hpv.
I was great at it so my exposure was limited in duration

Fact. Oral cancer can have bacterial and even emotional origins. (emotion bringing down the immune system is a fact). And oral and throat cancers often have a very low survival rate. Obviously, an indiscriminate sex and smoking regimen gives a person more risk.
There is a wonderful “weed” called purslane that’s has been tested in reducing oral precancerous lesions as well as the typically prescribed steroid rinse, with no side effects. It grows wild in my garden and I chew it all the time. If you have enough you can add it to salads. It’s a little bit succulent and tasty enough for kids to pick and chew it. An oncologist told me about the studies done with purslane. Of course I’m sure EVH tried everything he could. RIP.

So true. Sex is wonderful but each time, even a kiss, you do trade “biotics” of pro and con varieties and if you don’t have a healthy biome yourself, they will take up residence. Promiscuity can kill you.
AIDS was the perfect experiment. In the 80s those bathhouses and clubs would allow each man entering DOZENS of exchanges of bacteria. Mucous membranes rip easily and you may never know. Gums are often open to the bloodstream. Too many partners leads to great health risks.

One of the most wonderful, memorable parts of the rock era, besides the live concerts, was the greatly increased fidelity of sound recording as the post-WW2 era rolled out—vinyl, transistors, stereo, ever-increasing technical improvements to the recording equipment, microphones, and the playback equipment, car stereos, tapes and CDs—in rapid succession. Listening became so acutely pleasurable with LPs and stack changers.
One of my favorite home entertainments was inviting a few friends over, having something to eat, then sprawling on sofas, chairs and the floor and just listening to the fantastic musical artistry of the 50s onward. It was never before possible in history to have so much powerful music in the homes of the middle and working classes. My first stop on payday throughout the 70s was the record store.
Listening to “Cathedral” now and drinking a beer. RIP Eddie, and thanks.

I guess I should have said that I really had no idea the man was sick, likely because my image of him is still firmly stuck in the 80s.
