But I would have to say both Steely Dan's "Royal Scam" and Dylan's "Desire" albums had more listenability as whole pieces of work.
1976 was also the year I graduated high school and we had The Ohio Players perform for Senior Night - not bad for a bunch of Florida hicks.
I love both “Year of the Cat” and “Time Passages”, two great albums. Good to listen to late at night, when it’s quiet.
Of course 1976 was the year of Boston’s first album — 17 million copies sold. An amazing album. I’ll never forget hearing it through an acquaintance’s JBL L100’s, with a 100 or 125 watt Pioneer receiver, one of the most powerful available at the time. Blew us away.
Your link took me to Kansas!
Two more good ones from 1976 were Gist of the Gemini by Gino Vanelli and Silk Degrees by Boz Scaggs. In addition to “Year of Cat,” I think I heard “Love of My Life” and “Lowdown” about a million times on the radio.
Lido Shuffle is one of my all time favs.
1976 - Warren Zevon’s self titled album, best album of the year IMO. ‘Hasten Down The Wind’, ‘Carmelita’, ‘Mohammed’s Radio’, ‘I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead’, just a few of the excellent songs on that LP.
Yeah! It is funny how certain memories get fused together in in your mind like that. Glad I don’t have memories of the smells you have linked in. :)
We're not in Kansas anymore, Toto.
Click that link. It's spectacular.
LOL, anything with sewage and fish can’t be good!
I like Thelonious Monk...and as far as names go...that is a damn good one!
Same for me. Music, smells. Diesel exhaust in the winter reminds me of my HS bus trips to Colorado skiing. Some kid in the condo above played ‘Another One Bites the Dust’ on repeat until I got sick of it. Still am.
Heheheh, I know what you mean, a bunch of us were having a party back in the Seventies, and we passed out while an 8-Track of Foghat was playing, and that thing played over, and over, and over, and over all night.
Funny thing about 8-Tracks, they had that ‘click’ when it changed tracks, and to this day, if I hear a certain song played that was on that album and it doesn’t have that ‘click’...I expect to hear it!
Boy, Sam you’re a busy man. I think we would get along well.
My favorite description in song is from Saturday in the Park by Chicago (and perfected by Leonid and Friends)
“A bronze man still can tell stories his own way.”
Now...I sure hope you are not pulling my leg on this! That is one line of song, one of my favorite songs, that I never noodled out the lyrics to.
I stopped listening to Chicago some years ago, probably before the advent of the Internet, and always thought it said “A proud man, still can, tell stories his own way” and never went back to see the lyrics on that one!
I had a friend who thought the lyrics in the song “Twilight Zone” where it says “when the bullet hit the bone”...he thought it said “When the bullet hits the phone”...:)
Heh, one of the more humorous sites is https://www.kissthisguy.com...
That verse starts out “Slow motion riders fly the colors of the day.” I take that to mean kites
“A bronze man, still can tell stories his own way” is trying to interpret the meaning behind a statue.
Perfect example, in Boston this week they removed a statue of a slave that they said was kneeling before Abe Lincoln.
Anyone but a leftist racist could see that Lincoln was lifting the slave from the oppression that kept him on his knees. But liberals are stupid and unable to see things outside of their twisted worldview
As for the statue and the Leftists...I know. It is simply absurd. And dangerous. Of course, there are statues, like this ill conceived one that should be taken down...(and I think it was)
To be honest, it wasn’t until I heard the Leonid and Friends version that the Bronze man really jumped out.
It’s because the Russian singer has a gravely voice and precisely sings Brrrronze
Interesting article but also a great spectacle of “look at me” writing.
Al Stewart’s Song on the Radio is another good one.
