Those ‘medals’ plus an expired box of Cracker Jacks will give you a handfull of some old, cold popcorn. Nothing much more.
Should those with Bachelor degrees be addressed as “Bachelor” and those with Masters degrees as “Master”?
BS, MS, PhD=Bull S**t, More of the Same, Piled Higher and Deeper.
He should have called her by her full title, “Doctor of Philosophy Rosario.”
I am sure Jill could “feel her pain”.
One can “earn” a lot of things when holding “de famous Webberly .45”.
(Yes, I have the album by John Bird....)
Did you even read the article??
“Rosario holds a Ph.D. in public health”
People with PhDs are titled Doctor.
That’s why you have Doctor Sheldon Cooper for example.
She earned a Ph.D in public health.
The PhD Public Health course focuses on both the practical field work and the theoretical work in order to enhance the hygiene standards of the communities and enable people to live a healthy lifestyle.
This multidisciplinary degree provides advanced education in public health along with mastery of skills in management, leadership, communications, and innovation thinking.
The academic training will cover the biological, social, and economic foundations of public health, as well as essential statistical, quantitative, and methodological skills you will need to address today’s complex public health challenges, which rarely fall within neat disciplinary boundaries
It’s not a lightweight degree
It’s a Ph.D in public health from Loma Linda university.
The last paragraph is what she’s doing currently.
She got her Doctorate at Loma Linda university and the curriculum is
The DrPH degree programs offers training for careers in which advanced expertise in program planning, implementation, evaluation and policy analysis are required. Students’ doctoral project (Integrated learning experience) and applied practice experience are key components in the development of critical thinking and leadership skills. She worked hard for that and produced original research (a requirement to gain a Doctorate) -- and you think she's acting uppity?
...The overall DrPH curriculum is designed using a faith-based lens to accurately reflect the mission and vision of Loma Linda University and the School of Public Health. Additionally, nine units of courses offered by the LLU School of Religion are included in the curriculum to allow the students to enhance personal spiritual development as well as application of faith-based values to professional practice.
The admissions requirements for the doctoral degree programs described below are in addition to the University admissions requirements. The minimum eligibility requirements for admission to a doctoral degree program include the following:
- an MPH degree or master’s degree in a related field from a regionally accredited institution, with a G.P.A. of 3.5 or above. Applicants with a master’s degree in another field may indicate their relevant training, research experience, or educational background comparable to the MPH. DrPH applicants who are admitted without an MPH may be required to take additional course work at the graduate level to satisfy MPH core competencies.
- Religious affiliation is not a requirement; but students are expected to adhere to on-campus requirements of modest dress, abstinence from alcohol and smoking, and attendance at weekly chapel, as applicable.
Competencies:
- Analyze quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods and policy analysis research and evaluation methods to address health issues at multiple levels (individual, group, organization, community and population).
- Design a quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods, policy analysis or evaluation project to address a public health issue.
- Explain the use and limitations of surveillance systems and national surveys in assessing, monitoring and evaluating policies and programs and to address a population’s health.
All doctoral students are required to present their work (applied practice experience or integrated learning experience) at a scientific or professional conference either as a poster or as short oral presentation.
I like to sometimes refer to myself as “The Great I Am’’.
Many of the remarks on this thread are churlish. She had every right to be addressed by a title she had worked hard for. Plenty of white people who came from working class backgrounds and went all the way to a PhD would want to use their title professionally.
He just starting mansplaining, dismissing and arguing about something that was of no consequence to him but his ego (”I said it, and I cannot be wrong, because I am never wrong”); but the issue is very consequential to her.
It wasn’t necessarily “white” privilege, but it was definitely JERK behavior. His poor wife, assuming anyone would stay married to him.
I went to high school and college with Tony. Kappa Sig
“Home of the old Kress store “
Woolworths
“>>Remember when Barbara Boxer demanded to be addressed as “Senator” rather than “ma’am”, <<
yet she didn’t call the General, General.”
Oddly, a Private calls a Captain “sir” but a Captain calls a Private “Private”.
Plenty of white people who came from working class backgrounds and went all the way to a PhD would want to use their title professionally.
How do you know? Are you one of them?
It was a Zoom meeting for a city zoning board, not some round table discussion on public health matters, with other “Dr’s”. One could possibly go out on a limb and say that they may have all known and worked with each other. Maybe there’s a lot more to the story.
But, she is just a bougie, pretentious snob that DEMANDED that she be addressed a certain way by an old white guy. Nothing more than that. And as for him being booted off, look at the other participants on the meeting. 4 of the remaining 5 are black, so they’re sticking to their team either because they didn’t like the guy or they’re afraid of her. And #6 was either intimidated and wanted to keep his position or was also on the same team.
I’m kind of curious as to why she’s even on the board. I wonder how she got on there. She might be wholly qualified, but I’m thinking she’s just a loudmouth, bougie beotch and people voted for her just to satisfy her and shut her up for a little bit. She’s the loudmouth on your HOA that raises hell about your porch light or color of your front door. She’s the loudmouth on the school board that changes EVERYTHING to satisfy her SJW beliefs.
Is he a Democrat?
Tony Collins, a construction contractor and former member of the Greensboro City Council’s Zoning Commission.....someone that should ACTUALLY be on a Zoning board as he has a thorough understanding of building and related matters, IF he’s not just rubber stamping anything, any developer or builder wants to slam up.
She, on the other hand, has a PhD in public health. Social Justice Public Health, that is. Pardon me. Unless she’s the Greensboro version of Rehab Addict in her spare time or every male member of her family is in the trades and she grew up working with them....a la, Miss Mona Lisa Vito working in her dads garage....she doesn’t know a hammer from a ham sandwich. And the only reason she’s there is to impose her social justice ideology on the city, feel like she’s in control of something and use that position to springboard her to another, “higher” office. Nothing more.
Thank you. Lots of anti-intellectualism on this thread. Agreed, the academy has become corrupted; and it's possible she may have been an affirmative action candidate or in a lightweight program; but this was not a hill worth dying on, because it's also entirely possible she may have been a serious scholar and have actual qualifications.
Three quarters of a century after the Civil Rights movement started diminishing legalized white superiority (and even before that), there are many black Americans whose parents and grandparents have been educated middle- or upper-class people, and they deserve respect until they prove otherwise.
Nothing she said bothered me at all; she was polite to a pettily argumentative individual.
The accusations of racism being the reason for his crass stupidity do bother me, though. He is probably like this with everyone. Pretty soon they're going to wear out that filthy old rag from shaking it around so much.
Well, that’s just nasty. Sucks to be you.
Why is that?
