That’s just a pesky sentence in the Constitution.
“FOOTBALL is a BUSINESS not a SPORT..”
Unfortunately too many people, with the assistance of the league’s efforts to sell it as a sport, assist it to pour money into their coffers as a sport. So as long as they don’t have to advertise it as a gang fight. it can remain a sport. But the owners can’t be held responsible for the many acts on the field that would make it a crime on the street, so they tweak the rules and can enter places without being considered “dons.”
And at the same time they sign (hire) professional hit men to be blamed for being what they are....thugs. But the NHL sells it that way It makes money. They understand the money making capacity of thugery. They call them goons.
Funny thing is, another sport that is advertised as violence, professional wrastling, In California, is required to be a member of the Academy and the SAG unions. At least they are a little more honest about it.
