I think you all know how I dislike these "parallels with the Roman Empire" tropes, but it's just so odd to see Boris Johnson getting back to his roots. And I'm not talking about his Andy Warhol wig style hair.
A rare moment of lucidity for Boris. Bet his wife is going to make him sleep on the couch for that one.
Oops, looks like Boris needs another “talking to” to get his “mind right” again.
Your vote counts if you don’t use it someone else will it’s how we got into this mess expecting others to do the right thing.
Parents are just now finding what goes on the their child’s schools.
Control is a matter of using what others don’t.
There was a shift in the composition of the Empire’s army as well. Germanic warriors were making up the bulk of the auxiliary forces. The empire relied on the loyalty of the Germanic commanders because they had no other choice.
“They think letting them all in, with zero vetting, will make their lives better. It wonβt.”
Just keep repeating the mantra, “Diversity is our strength.” Maybe one day it will be true.
He went to Eton and got a 1st in Classics at Oxford, no mean feat. He's read plenty of books. Unfortunately he was turned into a pu$$y-whipped beta cluck by his new eco-warrior squeeze, Princess Nut Nuts.
Oh right...
That is why many refer to this period as the DARK AGES.
Dark despite the church, not because of it.
Were it not for the social cohesion and knowledge preserved by the church, there would have been no memory of Greek and Latin; no preservation of scripture, no understanding of Homer, Aristotle, Virgil, or Tacitus; no record at all of civilization; no Renaissance and no possibility for one.
Barbarianism would have triumphed utterly and completely — a Dark Age with no end.
While the Church had some good moments... It also had very dark moments. It played a MAJOR role in the destruction in the library of Alexandria. God only knows how much knowledge was destroyed.
And don’t get me started on the Spanish Inquisitions, etc.
Our country is very similar in that its leaders are only about power and control. God help us.
‘Bout time someone started paying attention to history.
The barbarian invasion of Rome occurred when Roman patricians invited barbarians into the empire - as cheap labor! They were even cheaper than slaves!
They tried to disarm the barbarian tribes, but the tribes, not being idiots, turned on them and were eventually able to sack Rome itself.
This is what is going to happen the the US when the illegal aliens (aka invading barbarians) figure out that they’re at least 10% of the population and turn on us. It’s what is going to happen the UK and Europe when the Moslems turn on them.
The question is, is too late to fix the issue? And are we sufficiently ruthless use all the means at our disposal to rid us of these invaders?
