Maybe not as strange as you think.
If you cast off the notion that these semi-stone age American societies were peaceful. Why worry about ease of transport when you can raid the next village for two-legged “beasts of burden”.
Ok, ok....go with the joke please. I’m talking about the little images on the placard in post 2. And you have to have eaten Carvel cakes in New England.
In retrospect, my joke is too layered in nuance. Go Armenia!
Uncle Tanuse taps box
Layered cake? ;^) Armenia, yourmenia, theirmenia...
Uncle Tonoose much happy
The small version (I used “width=500” on the placard) of the winery reminds me of that scene in ‘Timecop’ when the bad guy met himself.

They obviously could have used horses. Indians wistfully looked over the plains atop their horses, until the white man came and ruined it all. At least that is what Sedona tourist art leads me to believe.
Horses didn’t exist in Western Hemisphere until the Spanish brought them over. Horses were once native, but they died out at the end of the last glaciation. The closest thing to a horse in the Western Hemisphere was the camel cousin - the llama!
I believe adding a “sarc tag” ruins the sarcasm. I rely on readers to glean the context.
I guess but the past is so poorly taught or cared about. Nothing surprises me regarding the gaps in people’s knowledge of that subject. I just automatically assume zero. I should stop that.
I apologize for not getting your sarcasm!
