Yes it is a good point, considering what LOTR and Middle Earth is intended to represent. Tolkien was a person very steeped in English culture, but saw it fading due to industrialization and modernism. He was a professor of literature at Oxford, specializing in Norse mythology and English folklore, so his purpose was to create a unique English mythology by combining the two. He was very specific about it in his authorized biography, which I have read. But Amazon wants to basically cancel Tolkien and recreate him again as something multicultural, effectively destroying all his works. Well needless to say, they won’t be getting a wooden nickel from me.

I hope you’re right, but the #metoo movement hasn’t really opposed sexual nudity on the screen so much. You’ve even got somewhat of a loose-knit alliance with the “free the nipple” movement. Game of Thrones, a series I couldn’t get through the first episode of, was a very popular franchise. And I’m concerned Amazon might use that as a model rather than the highly-successful LOTR films (not to mention the great literature they’re all drawn from).

From what I've read, the studios are requiring intimacy coordinators and the movies are not the same as they were a couple years ago. One example. Daniel Craig's 007 is pretty woke. Look at the older ones, you always see 007 being a male chauvinist who gets all the ladies.

I think the films that Hollywood have released in '21 and '22 are pretty tame and woke compared to the past decade or two. That's my experience anyway.

There is a series of books called The Dark Is Rising.

It may be the most lyrical fantasy fiction ever written.

The movie that was allegedly an adaptation of it botched it in every respect, including botching the Welsh mythology that the books were entirely based on, and making it Home Alone In Wales which had absolutely nothing in common with the books.

The race of elves has race? So stupid. I wonder how many black people were clamoring for token black elves?

Another “woke” remake is the new “Resident Evil” series. Horrible. Started out promising with one of my favorite black actors only to have the whole thing turn to crap after a few minutes of our heroine, who is black, and of course knows better then all dem white boyz.

The costumes look more like rentals for a stage play vs. a major production.

Yes! Or Anne McCaffrey’s “Dragon Riders of Pern” series.

Supposedly it is in post production now.

I don't see how they could make it "woke" unless Prill and Teela are gay lovers. Louis Wu is the only other human. All other characters are non-humanoid with very specifically described traits. And I don't see the Kzin Speaker to Animals entertaining any sort of relationship with Nessus or anyone other than another Kzin. And there ain't one. We shall see. I hope.

The SciFi channel did do two extremely feeble attempts at Riverworld. Both times just horrible!

So, prepare to be disappointed if they or someone else from Hollyweird attempts “Dragon Riders of Pern”!

It might be subtle. But it's there all right. I've noticed in the past couple of years, the quality has gone way down. It's like Hollywood forgot how to do entertainment. Just my .02

They spent a fortune and will never make the money back.
