I’m the polar opposite of a fan of Hollywood scumbags like Affleck and J=Lo, but this is utterly asinine. Let me get this straight... it’s now “racist” to have a wedding at a large Greek-revival style home? Because it resembles the big house on a slavery-era plantation? Even if it’s a new building that is not and has never been big the house on a slavery-era plantation? So, basically, a certain style architecture is now racist?

Large Greek-revival homes can be found in Santa Rosa, California, as well as a fair number of other California towns with late 19th century homes largely built by and for families that left the South after the Civil War, These houses are now racist and unsuitable for social events such as weddings? Uh huh.

I hope the player’s wife never travels to Greece, home of the Doric, Ionic and Corinthian columns.

Add the aroma of pluff mud, mosquitos, and no-see-ums to the party.

It’s not so much the house itself, it is the romanticizing of the antebellum South and that old way of life on the plantation. The Ashley and Melanie at Twelve Oaks fantasy. I think what offended people was seeing pictures of wedding parties cavorting in and around the remaining slave quarters on properties. Sort of like taking jokey pictures at Dachau. You are making light of a very unpleasant chapter in history.

This whole controversy is contrived and silly. JLo and Affleck were married months ago in Las Vegas.

The ground level section of the house probably contains nothing of great value. The main level which looks to be 15-20 above ground has all the nice furnishings, fixtures and building materials.

Yeah. Regardless of Affleck’s fame and fortune, the house would’ve fallen under FEMA’s floodplain guidelines when it was built. I think I read in the REALTOR.com description that the garage was on the lower level. I’d venture to say, any newer homes built in the area...whether a plantation mansion or a 1000sf house...was built well above the ground. That’s just standard for floodplains anymore. Ignoring FEMA guidelines runs flood insurance right up.

And this was in Indianapolis. Probably the farthest south she ever traveled was from Oakland to San Francisco.

Upon doing Ancestry research, I discovered that hubby’s maternal great-great-great-grandfather, Archibald Stewart, owned about 200 slaves in Alabama. He lost everything in the civil war and left for Texas in 1866 where he promptly became wealthy again. Go figure. The acorn fell far from the tree in our case, lol.

Nope, too hot for Mosquitos that time of year.

In Georgia, its Sand Gnats. Evil little no-see’ems that you can’t really do anything about except use screen.

You can’t spray for them, what kills them also kills shrimp. About all you can do is try to trap them with fresh water and drown them.

Deep Woods Off will combat them, as well as Avon Skin-So-Soft, but, not much else.

I have some friends that own the land across the North Newport River from Affleck’s house. When you get a on shore breeze going, it’s actually almost comfortable.

Year built 2000

Is that right? He had a plantation-style house built for himself?

Wikipedia says that Riceboro's population is small and overwhelmingly Black. But I don't suppose Ben goes into town very often.

Nothing says desperate like marrying the guy who dumped you and broke your heart 15 years or so ago. 😏

No body it seems thinks it a bad thing to get married in New York City where they had that big slave market some centuries ago.

All the drama was taken from the New York City slave market when the financial community had a local trophy shop make up a nice plaque recognizing New Yorks’ centuries of abuse and had Mayor Bill de Blasio tearfully unveil the little memorial in 2015 at the corner of Wall and Water Streets.

So take your local high school seniors to the New York City slave market and spend, spend, spend without guilt.

Everything has been rectified.
