“And also what stops that evil; the coming of the cross”
Which I thought was a terrific segue to a 2nd movie.
Or, the suffering of any living thing.
I was reading a book by a guy I admire greatly and had to put it down and laugh when he talked about the beauty of the Greek and Roman Pantheon.
I have to wonder if he ever read anything beyond the nursery version of those stories.
Tacitus describes the ancient Germans (Actually more an Iron Age people!) sacrificing the Romans they captured at Teutoburg Wald to their gods by burning them alive in wicker cages. Of course, the Romans weren’t much better, their triumphs and gladiatorial contests using prisoners were at their core religious rites.
The ancient Irish were headhunters and practiced eating the hearts of captured warriors to gain their courage and strength or so they thought.
All culture are equal, right?
Stay away from dark alleys
or jungles ...
and some in the crowd actually lapped the nonsense up
LOL
How un-woke of them. Haven't they ever heard of 'settled science"
Maya Blue Paint Recipe Deciphered
...The ancient Maya used a vivid, remarkably durable blue paint to cover their palace walls, codices, pottery and maybe even the bodies of human sacrifices who were thrown to their deaths down sacred wells. Now a group of chemists claim to have cracked the recipe of Maya Blue....
Mystery of 'Maya blue' dye tied to human sacrifice
Eeek!
One of my favorite movies of all time.
Jaguar Paw cleans house.
Hold muh beer and watch this?
One of the things I liked the most was the actors were pretty much unknowns.
Very refreshing.
“The scene at the end of the chase that shows the Spanish ships arriving, and the looks on the natives faces...”
I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve seen “Apocalypto”-a history lesson within a good thriller-and when Jaguar Paw wins over his assassins and is standing with his wife and kids watching from a distance the Spanish ships arriving, his wife asks him if they should go out and greet the strangers when they come ashore-he says no-we are going to pack up and get as far away into the jungle as possible and live our lives-proving that he was the only Native in the bunch able to see that an invasion was about to happen, and with the common sense to survive what was coming by getting the hell out of Dodge...
The actor who played Jaguar Paw is Hispanic and Native American-also a Native Texan. Most of the actors were Hispanic/Native American to provide authenticity/reality...
Most of the cast were local Quechua speaking actors.
It’ll be like pulling teeth to find out why.
Oh, wait.
