WOW! You just wished death on our Buffalo NY family….
It’s an age-old FR tradition.
You missed the memo. The corrected literagy is now climate change, global warming? How could you? According to the law, you must now be stoned to death.
Never notice how Governor Ho-chill sort of tap dances when she speaks on the dais. It is disturbingly reminiscent of Christopher Walken schtick, cracking wise and insolent to showcase her BS.
So, don't go out until you see the white out conditions? Got it.
I was in Fayetteville, NY for the big January 1966 lake-effect blizzard.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yup... that was a good one. As were the storms of 68, 77 and 2014. The location of Buffalo was simply designed for getting good dumps with all the moisture being picked up from Lake Erie as the winds go east. This one looks like it is going to miss Buffalo but the radar map shows how it could have been a good one if it had of been just a bit more north... https://www.theweathernetwork.com/ca/map/radar?lat=43.4303&lng=-80.4831
I was fortunate enough to also catch the 1977 one in Massillon, Ohio.
I’d been working in the high deserts and mountains of the west and learned how to survive and drive in real snow. I’d recently moved to Ohio. I got to work in North Canton through some icy roads and drifted road cuts. The parking lot was empty which I thought was odd. The guard asked me “What are you doing here? We are closed for snow. Don’t you listen to the radio?” I was shocked at the pansy response to a snowstorm. Nope, I didn’t listen to insipid radio. So I went home and enjoyed my snow day.
um... running out to Tops/Wegmans right now for some items.
Anyone need anything ?
Been there myself many times... this is about when I get launched into a slight variation of this...
LOL...LOVE that scene. Then “just kids havin’ fun”
BREAD, MILK and TOILET PAPER!!! :-)
Beer and beans, too
Anyway, the lake effect snow is quite the phenomonon. Cold air blows across the relatively warm Great Lakes and creates moisture that is then dumped as relentless snow squalls on the leeward side. You don't need an actual storm. Just cold wind and warm water.
Buffalo is best known for the 1977 snow event. But that wasn't actually lake effect snow as the lakes were already frozen at that point. What they got was existing snow blown at them that was already sitting on the frozen lake. Plus a little bit from the sky too.
They did get a heavy snow…. My sister-in-law sent me a pic of her hubby’s truck with a little over 2 feet on top of the cab.
