Some freepers love to talk down to others they hold in low esteem due to their own personal biases and beliefs.
I have to deal daily with liberals who talk down upon everyone else regularly, and consistently when it comes to conservatives.
I'm seeing more and more of that behavior here lately.

And in important question and observation: there virtually no high the first couple, three, four times. And then the high comes with use. Why is that. And you can pick it up years later and there is an immediate high. Sure sounds like the human body, brain, changes and it is permanent. Just my own experiences.
And now that it is legal, it has gotten a lot stronger and is available in different forms. It is no longer in natural form and has been refined and “distilled” and genetically selected and altered for strength. Whatever “minimal” risks that existed years ago are increased many times because of the refinement. Which raises the question: if there were health benefits back in the day are they lost because of the recent refinements with the primary goal being the high.
I've found myself being more creative and usually more motivated when indulging if I'm enjoying something that challenges my mind, or even reading a book. Not everyone has the same reaction to smoking, short or long term.
Again I will point out that your spiel about potency is backwards at best. Nothing personal. If you drink a 12 oz beer, it's not the same as drinking 12 oz of White Lightning, is it? You would do a 1oz shot and that is somewhat equivalent to a can of beer (ok, considering the percentage of actual alcohol, maybe 2-3 cans of beer, but you get it). Same concept for modern cannabis, which runs in the high 30% THC content range.
I indulged in just as potent weed back in the 80’s. Wasn't as widespread as it is now. Even back then, you pretty much know when you've had enough, at least for most people. You don't simply continue smoking until you pass out, like drinkers may do, and needle users regularly do. Doesn't work like that. I'll ask this again, do you get the meaning behind “one hit sh*t”? Means that did the trick, don't need another puff, or even if I do smoke more, I've plateaued to the point that continuing to smoke more has no additional effect.
Making it more potent leaves me having to smoke less, which in effect, is a “positive” overall, all things considered.

I think that it is a game of statistics. “For most people” it is not a good thing. Me included. And my old friend from high school who started dealing and wasted most of his life doing drugs. He was our go to dealer and had pretty much everything. But he started by using pot so there is some truth to it being a gateway drug.
Apparently the new weed is much stronger and now you can ingest almost pure THC? Not sure what form or how but according to my son, his friend zoned out in the corner when he took it. My sons friend was pulled in and is pretty much a “loser” with a bunch of “loser” friends who all do drugs. They all share an apartment because they cannot afford to be on their own. Can’t hold down a job, etc. Sad.
Or because it is cool and hip.
Consider that the alcohol pushers back at the turn of the 20th century are the ones who insisted marijuana be a controlled substance. The competition was struck down and the booze distributors rejoiced.
Gateway drug? Dealers sell what makes them profits. I tried a few things back when I was in High School, but for the most part, nothing else really appealed to me. Never went near any needles, and neither did any of those people I knew who indulged in marijuana.
I have some practically pure extract that you can get relatively cheap these days, something over 93% pure THCa. And again, for this stuff, just a little bit will do the trick.
To each their own, but to look down upon recreational MJ users doesn't make much sense to me as I've seen the results of many different products that are legal which tend to destroy a person faster and much more thoroughly than MJ.

My friend could have probably gotten us whatever we wanted. He was really into it and for many years, decades. And lost out on life — he was really smart and could have become an engineer or scientist. Instead, he used his smarts to deal and use drugs. A “loser” like my son's friends. It was probably lucrative for him. He always seem to have a lot of money. So there is that. :)
I am thankful that my son resisted the temptation otherwise he'd probably be like his friends. I don't know if he even tried it but I know that he was really angry the last time he saw his friend. He left his friend stoned in the corner. That was the last time he saw or talked with his friend.
Anyway, our son has a masters in EE and is working in the Bay Area. He worked hard for it and he earned it. And he has lots of potential in his future. We are blessed.

Great to hear about your son. Sounds like he has his head screwed on properly and will be fine. You should be proud of yourselves along with him.
One of my friends in High School only made it to 25 before he crashed and died. Drugs weren’t the issue, but he indulged in too many things that he shouldn’t have and we couldn’t keep him out of harms way forever. My other friends have all excelled and seem to be doing very well all these decades later.
I became a Field Engineer and have had an honest, hard working career now for over 40 years, even though I indulge daily (on my free time, of course, and never during work hours).
You never know for sure what is in that pot.

Our son gets his good habits from mom. She was a taskmaster when he was growing up and all through K-12. But loving too. And he appreciated it when he was older — he said so.
Me? I had to “sow my oats” until I got on track and finished college. Probably your typical path as a young kid. Our son was not typical... jumped right into college and then on to masters.
Hey, our sons friend, the friend that I was talking about, contacted my wife yesterday asking for our sons phone number. Maybe they’ll reconnect. Son’s friend was a smart kid too. Just very little positive guidance when he was growing up and in school. Truth be told, his mother was and is an idiot. Dad was good example but never around — they were divorced.
