Nah, It’s simpler than that. And this seems to be fresh water. It’s worse in salt water. The salt water makes the skin slippery and rings and such just slide right off. I had a scuba shop for years and my beach combing divers were always bringing in rings, St Christophers silver coins and the like. I always bought their finds to keep them motivated. When the price of gold went up in the late 70’s I sold a cup full of gold rings. No way to find the owners since most were tourist types and long gone by the time the things were found.

Bottom line: take off your jewelry when diving/swimming. Metal banded diving watches work just fine.

I lost my Jacaru leather outback hat in Canyon Lake over Memorial Day weekend and found it on Labor Day weekend. That was about 20 years ago. I still wear it to mow the lawn. Helluva hat.

My Timex claims to be water-resistant to 30 meters. “It takes a licking and keeps on ticking.”

Hey! One hundred and seventy of those gold rings were mine! I lost them over the decades! You owe me!

Oh, I have to identify them?

Ok.

They were gold and circular.

makes the skin slippery and rings and such just slide right off.

Just ask Isildur from The Lord of the Rings about that.

I have one with the original band, but I wouldn’t go swimming with it. It’s not waterproof anyway. I wear it when I go on long walks, it tells me how many miles I’ve walked.

“Why would anybody go swimming with a $800 Apple watch in the first place.”

Anyone stupid enough to buy an $800 Apple watch isn’t going to think about much.

“...makes a living using his metal detector to recover lost items from the water at Indiana’s Chain O’ Lakes”

Then...

“...he keeps everything he finds in the water in the hopes of returning them to their owners. I haven’t sold anything, including a white gold Cartier ring, unless I get it back to the owner”

Sounds like a hard way to make a living.

Scuba diving in a Texas lake I found an iPod at the bottom. It was still playing music when I plugged in earphones!

Chain O Lakes is best known for canoeing and kayaking more than swimming. There’s 9 I think connected lakes.

These are my go-to cases. They add a little weight, but man do they work.

They’re made by different manufacturers, I think, but here’s an eBay search
