and he’s not the daddy!
One Sunday when I was home on leave from the Marines, I had forgotten about the old ‘Blue Laws’, and me and a buddy that was with me went to a Seven Eleven over on Lem Turner to buy some beer. Went to the counter and the clerk looked at us kinda funny.
He said, “You’re not from around here, are you?”
I played dumb and said no.
He told us that he couldn’t sell us alcohol on Sunday and I suddenly remembered the Blue Laws and acted surprised. My buddy was from Maryland and had never heard of such a thing so he was really surprised.
But the clerk was cool, and he could tell we were military because of our short haircuts, so he sold us the beer anyways.....................
Remember when you could drive up to the drive thru at a Jax liquors, order a mixed drink and get it handed to you right through the window?
I tell that story now and most people don’t believe it. Lol!
Yep! Did it with another Marine buddy one weekend and he was flabbergasted! He was from Washington state......................
I remember the city council trying to crack down on that....so instead of handing you an already mixed drink they just handed you cups, ice, mixer, booze and let you mix it yourself.
That was WAY safer. 👌😂
I remember that, but it was before I was old enough to buy alcohol. I did keep an eye on Jax Liquors for soda sales, which were normally REALLY good prices ($5-$6 24-can case). Same drive through, toss the case in the back seat.
I don’t think it’s possible to get drunk on Hamm’s pi$$water.
Across my hotel in Daytona Beach back around 1987 there was a drive-thru bar right next to a drive-in church.
Narragansett beer..
Currently they are using Jaws as advertising.
Had one the other day
Was ok...better than bud
Thanks, never heard of it!.................
Fight or flight!
My friend’s son is named Harley Davison surname...when his son was born, his wife said to get rid of his Harley, he asked if he could name him Harley, so he is named that...
It’s not nice to fool with Mother Nature. Hope she scorched them good.
Yea, Narragansett and Schaefer beer were really popular here in MA and in RI during the 70’s.
The Stadium a few miles up the road was initially called Schaefer Stadium before it became Foxboro then Gillete stadium.
My Grandmother always had a Narragansett 6-pack in the fridge.
She would have ONE every night.
I actually drank my first Schlitz for the first time in like 40 years last week.
We were eating at a local pub and i noticed it in the beer cooler.
Haven’t seen one in decades.
Probably some new brewery bought the name but it was still pretty cool.
Schlitz?
That was my first beer. When I was 6 years old, 1961.
That’s probably why I never was a big drinker.
I thought they were bought out by Molson-Coors and went out of business............................
