LOL. I’ve been fighting the IRS for over 15 years. You can actually turn their own bureaucracy against them. Let them gum up their own works. Now it involves some patience.
Acknowledge it can be scary.
If you can afford it, getting a good tax firm/lawyer helps. Toward the tail end (which includes now) I used Optima Tax Relief. They have been awesome.
Note: I have no connection with Optima except as one of their clients. They really have kicked ###.
we got our refund back right away, and our kids got theirs quick also.
This year, I found myself needing to pay $4800. I’m uncertain about whether to have additional amounts withheld from my paycheck moving forward. Perhaps it would be wise to notify them that I’m delaying the payment pending a review.
Happened to me last year, for no apparent reason, no contact from IRS, just a delay and then the refund was made. Only way I even found out was by going online and checking why my refund had not been forthcoming in a reasonable time.
I can remember getting a letter wanting to know if it was really me who filed the return and if so, please provide additional documentation to prove that it was.
Got my refund last week both state and federal. Haven’t been audited since I began to file them when I was 16 years old.
Not this year. But surprise. They “reviewed” all mine from 2019 and said I owed $18k. Of course it will cost me $20k to challenge it. I wonder how many other Trump voters got the same treatment after registering as a Republican voter?
They better start auditing those bass turds wading the Rio Grande. They are making MILLIONS. Since the RATS have awarded them every right the normal American has, the bass tards should have the rights to be taxed and audited.
How long ago did you submit it? I don’t do my Fed’l taxes online. I always do the paper form. I have nothing to claim, take the standard deduction too, single, no dependents. Two years ago, it took six months for me to get my lousy refund. It wasn’t held up for review. It just took them that long to get to it. Last year I got my return within a reasonable amount of time. It’s been six weeks since I mailed 2023’s forms in. I’ve checked “Where’s my refund?” but it continually says I must have made an error when submitting the info to the site. That likely means they just haven’t processed it yet.
Yup same here. I have nothing else to say about it. At least nothing I want a record of.
Yes efiled via accounting firm 2/10. Refund being held. I signed up for iD.me and got my transcript for 2023. There are codes on there you can look up. I have a 970. I called tax irs tax advocate. I am getting a CP05 letter (she read it to me). It states refund being held for review and I don’t need to anything at this time. No letter received yet. My income was drastically reduced when I lost my husband in 2022. It may be that reason. Anyways was told it could take 120 days. I also learned verification of income is not in system until July. It’s all based on honor system for refunds, etc.
Never have I had refund reviewed, held until this year. My Michigan refund was held as well. I got letter stating I had to send all my tax docs I efiled with to them. I uploaded them weeks ago. Just got Michigan refund in my account.
Sign up for ID.me account and it will give you access to all your tax info over periods of years.
I find it strange both Michigan and IRS held my refund this year
No problem here. They processed my return in 5 days. Everyone’s situation is different.
may have something to do with your social credit score
22 years ago, I got two letters from the IRS asking me to sign a piece of paper asking me to agree to an imputed amount of income.
I didn’t sign either one. Called the IRS and spoke with what seemed to be a young man. I asked him to cite the STATUTE that required me in my situation to pay an income tax; not an IRS regulation because IRS regs are not the law. Laws are enacted by Congress, not the IRS. He had no answer or other response. He asked me if I was serious. I assured him I was.
Told him I know he has to collect a certain amount of money, I apparently convinced him I wasn’t worth the effort even if I did owe taxes; which I didn’t.
Haven’t heard from the IRS in the last 22 years.
Yes. Ours is being reviewed. They told me 180 days. W2 and a couple thousand on a Schedule C.
