Duane hit an oncoming boom truck that had begun to turn left into his path but decided to stop while it still was obstructing not only Allman's lane but pretty much the entire thoroughfare.
“ A song Dickie Betts wrote for our second album, uh, “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed””
IMO, this live version on Allman Brothers Live at the Fillmore is the finest piece of recorded music in the history of mankind.’
Yes
And you have to hear the vinyl version or you miss Duane saying “uh..in memory of Elizabeth Reed” among other narrative gems.
Elizabeth Reed is brilliant.
At Fillmore East yes it’s the best in history.
The entire album is.
Saw Dickie with his Great Southern band, too.
He was the country influence on them - the ABB was surely unique among bands - blues, rock, jazz, country.
Today is a good rainy day to put "At Fillmore East" on the turntable....
RIP Dickey.

One of the very best of all time. RIP.

Never have been so much talent in one band, as in the Original Six ABB.
He and Oakley were killed at intersections of the same street just a few blocks apart.

The only way to listen to it. W head phones.
Duane talks in between songs. He gives credit to Elmore James and the blues masters they’re playing
Going to eat a peach in his honor.
My recollection is that Duane left brother Gregg in California, came back home and formed the Allman Bros. I believe he said he had two drummers, because they were both too good to let one go. Same reason he ended up with another lead guitar player, Betts was just so talented he wanted him in the band.

Each one is a solo artist.

Nope. It was his plan. He had Jaimie first. Then Berry. He wanted two drummers. Jaimie was a jazz drummer. Butch was classical. Jaimie helped him find the guitar player he was looking for. Duane said Dickies my guitar player I just ply along. Something like that
When they gave Duane crap about it he said Otis had two drummers. I have two drummers.
“The entire album is.”
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Agreed.
IMO, Eliz Reed nudges out Whipping Post and You Don’t Love Me (usually) on that album. Side Two of Mountain Jam from Eat A Peach is right there, too. I believe that is from the same Fillmore concert, or at least it is included on the CD set (along with One Way Out, IIRC).
My late hubby and I went to see the Allmansevery time they were within riding distance of Boston.
RIP to one of the Greats.
My understanding is yes from same concert mountain jam and a few more on eat a peach from same FE shows. 3 days
Blue sky. We olayed that after Thanksgiving dinner sitting around the table asking nephew to plug in choices. When Blue Sky came on all the kids came out of the basement, upstairs, the woodwork
Nice. Blue Sky is perhaps my favorite road song.
Wish I had a dollar for every time I caught a buzz to Live at the Fillmore or Eat A Peach.
RIP Mr. Betts! One of the absolute best!
Many great tunes that he wrote and/or played lead on. His guitar work on Southbound is as good as it gets.
Then I told nephew to put on Mountain Jam minute 26. There’s Duane at his best. He loved Dickie Betts and Dickie was the one who went flying to find Duane when he failed to show up at the bus in the AM on tour. Duane was early or punctual for everything always.
