I hope there’s a special place in hell for people like this. My grandmother had dementia for ten years. We had to put her in a home for the last two and a half years. My father did everything he could to keep her home but it was impossible. He visited her almost everyday because he didn’t want her being abused. Her dementia was so bad at the end she couldn’t swallow her saliva. What a horrible thing to go through.
You can take a soul out of Africa, but you cannot take Africa out of the soul.

I had some part-time caregiver/helpers along the way. They really saved my sanity...such as it is.;-)

The eyes of a rocket scientist... my last two comments were removed, it appears, although I don’t see how they were any worse than some of the others that are still on the board.
One such brilliant mind was caught shaking my mother in the nursing home... she also stole stuff and was stupid enough to post evidence of her theft on a bulletin board at the nursing home. She was fired immediately... because of the theft, of course, not because she had physically battered my mother.
Mom’s word against hers, apparently. Couldn’t be proven.
Elderly, incapacitated, abandoned people are the most vulnerable.
Even a baby often has at least a mother or father watching out for it, but for an aged person who has not the money nor the means to care for themselves or protect their own interests, it seems to open them up to a world of beastly predators such as this despicable human stain of a person.
Think of people who mistreat animals, and who are put into the role of caring for a helpless, aged person. These are people who would pour gasoline on an animal and light it afire simply for personal entertainment. It nauseates me to think of them involved with helpless people.
It makes my blood boil.

The African legal immigrants I have met have, for the most part, been good Christian people. Natural born African Americans, are, as a culture, a mess. The ones who have chosen a traditional American culture are a far better group than them, IMHO.
Starting in the 60’s, A lot of black churches began to teach their congregants to be arrogant. Of course, they didn’t call it that -— they disguised it as teaching them they are worthy, are “somebody”. A little leaven goes a long way, The end result was not only arrogance, but a huge sense of entitlement. I was just a kid, but I was appalled that pastors would teach them that. They apparently thought they were espousing MLK, but they left out the most important point -— the content of one’s CHARACTER.
I just had to go through a lot of old paperwork from those years and it brought it all back to me. Awful time - surprised I survived it..Must be we’re tougher than we thought, right? Take care...
I quit 5 years ago. Good riddance.
Well, I never got that far but it was tempting...Only bad habit I had was smoking which I was able to give up 16 years ago cold turkey after COPD diagnosis - so I’m sure if I was a drinker, it would be an addiction. The only addiction I have is being Irish and opinionated!!!
COPD is what my husband had..You can imagine how irritating it was to hear a caregiver say he’s having trouble breathing - NO KIDDING, he has COPD, “Oh! does that affect the lungs?” I gave my unasked for opinion on hospice in an earlier post today..
I was a moderate smoker compared to him but if it’s developed in the military, I guess that’s a forever habit...I was aware of each and every one I smoked but he would put one out and light another...
