***Don't bomb the old mosque in Damascus, the head of John the Baptist is sitting in a box on a table in the middle of a side room.***

But the Crusaders took two heads of John the Baptist back to Venice when they sacked Constantinople.
Old JB seems to have more heads than the Hydra!

Gaffe?

This is tribal warefare. The idiots are using 21st century weapons and 5th century tactics.

Were it the llevrok presidency, I'd start with a bunker buster a day at 20 miles away and start closing increments of 1 mile every day towards Mecca when a suicide attack in Iraq and Afghanistan takes place.

Why, oh why am I getting visions of John Cleese here? It seems Pythonish, somehow...

And in such a serious thread.

Absolutely and even the "Soviets" figured out that a nuke attack would be a bad thing...because we had a deterrent in a mass retalitation policy...I would like to know what Curtis Lemay would tell the President.

This is religious war

For the terrorists it certianly is. But not for us, that's why we're winning and they are losing. When an official of the US govenment like Tancredo makes an incredibly dumb statement like he did all he's doing is handing more ammo for the terrorists to use.

Best idea I've heard all day. We need to put the fear in them.

Those who support him have to explain what the strategic value of such a response would be. There is none.

Well, now wait a second. Some 'holy' city in the Middle East is more worthy than some 'non-holy' city in the MidWest of the US?

Our innocent citizens are more worthy of attack than their innocent citizens? Our children should be roasted, but theirs not?

You want strategic value!? It goes like this: Kill ten thousand of my people and I will guarantee 100,000 of yours dead. Call it the strategic factor of '10'.

"OK we nuke Mecca, then what happens?"

We'll see. If the Muslim world refuses to condemn the terrorists, continues to preach holy wars in the mosques, and refuses to break up the madrasses, then we nuke Medina.

Then we do a Google on Muslim+holy+sites, and nuke them too.

Getting the general idea?

Durbin calls our troops Nazis and nothing happens to him, and Tancredo should be censured. ? :-\

Durbin was headed for censure too - until he apologized for his obscene remarks. But the controversy over Durbin's remarks was mostly domestic. It did not have the foreign policy implications of Tancredo's remarks.

Inflammatory rhetoric about nuking Mecca does not deter terrorism, it encourages it.

I'm dead serious about the head of John the Baptist. I saw it in the 60s and Pope John Paul went there to prey before it about five years ago. It was the first time a Pope had entered a mosque. And that mosque is the second oldest in the world, older than Mecca I think.

I wouldn't nuke John's head for no reason. He was the first cousin of Christ and baptized Christ. Someone might not take too kindly to us nuking John's head.

Yes. And a really really really stupid one it is.

Iagree. The islamofacists need to know the consequences of a nuke going off in a US city. It won't be pretty

Amen.

The Muslims do not care about their own people, but they do care about their religious sites.

Tell them that if a US city goes, so does Mecca (no more visiting as commanded by the Koran).

Nothing else will phase these people.

If someone is worried about killing the innocent, let them have time to get out.

Sometimes I think Tancredo is just a Pat Buchanan that hasn't yet made a fool of himself at the Republican National Convention. There'd be a place for him in the Reform Party if there still was a Reform Party.

"Yes. And a really really really stupid one it is."

Well, nuking Mecca may be stupid. But once it's nuked, what I recommend happens is quite logical.

And that, if you recall, was your question.
