There is a difference between proximate and ultimate causes. Evolution deals with the former; religion deals with the latter. To say we know how life reproduces, adapts and survives is not the same as knowing what brought it into existence in the first place. Science will undoubtedly tell us more about those processes but it will never answer the question of who or what is behind them. I do believe God made the world and established natural laws to animate life itself and of course among all the creatures of the world, He implanted man with a soul and with moral awareness. There is really no conflict between evolution and religion because evolution deals with the things of the present and religion deals with what was and with what is to come. Evolution is about the state of nature; religion is about the life of the world and human anthropology.

Not all democrats are left wing Godless liberals nor are all republicans religious right wing conservatives. That whole argument is WAY old. What's even worse is the whole wording of this thread... "intelligent" design. Intelligence has nothing to do with this obviously...

"The critics of Darwinism just don't want to confront the fact that molecules, enzymes and proteins lead to thought. Yes, we have a soul, but it's made up of lots of tiny robots."
So does materialistic "soul" have a free will? Is there a moral background to creation for which this free will has meaning?

When the Darwin folks figure out how the universe came to be, they will approach truth.
Matter does matter. Explanations limited to life are incomplete and self-serving.

both are theory only though! Music is only a theory too. I know, because my daughter took a class in it in college. (hint - the word "theory" doesn't mean what you think it does)
["While the IDers are crowing about their latest work of fiction sold on the 700 club, real scientists are decoding the human and primate genomes and discovering how they work, and how the genome itself evolves."] Very self righteous statement.
Yeah. And true too. When the 700 Club does any genuine science (critiques of evolution don't count), or even gives money to someone who does, let me know.

My only questions are:
1. Since there is no doubt among people with an IQ above 60 that ID is just a disguised reiteration of Creationism,
2. IDers often admit it is simply regurgitated Creationism,
3, IDers often lie to the media and in the Dover case and to the courts about the real Creationist basis for so-called ID.
4. Is it OK with God that you all lie about the origins of ID?
Final question, for 10 bonuus points....Isn't there some commandment about "false witnessing?"

Reproduction is a very simple process. People used to attached a supernatural explanation to it and some primitive people still believe the birth of a baby is miraculous. In one sense, the Virgin Birth legend is a vestige of the way people once saw the world. Today we know a baby is made through sexual intercourse between a man and a woman and the prosaic meeting of a sperm with an egg. Its still fascinating but there's nothing inherently complicated about living processes when you have the data right in front of you to establish how exactly they operate.

The 700 Club is too busy trying to steer a hurricane to Dover to do any real science

Even if they could figure it out with the 'big bang' theory, it still doesn't explain what came before it and what eventually caused it to exist.

Excellent, I can't wait for these "real scientists" to create life themselves and duplicate evolution. I've heard that custom life may soon be made. But evolution has been duplicated in the lab, and found in living ecosystems for many years.
The new microbiological evidence is icing on the cake. And the smoking gun proving the scientific theory of evolution has indeed occurred in fact.

Science, including Darwin, tries to make sense of what our senses tell us. At the same time, there are those who tell us that our senses don't tell us what is, or is not real. The skeptic is more in conflict with science than religionists are.

Agree -- there are nowhere near 120 million people in the US who believe that God made the first human out of mud. Not even if you count all the preschool-aged children who've been trained by their fundamentalist parents to spout "I believe [insert dogma here]" without any comprehension of what they're saying.

Once again, Darwinism is true because, well, we say it is and those who disagree aren't as smart as we are. There, now we have proved it!

You retards are a laugh riot. I mean seriously, you guys are wacko status. Nice try morons. People will be developing counter-Darwinistic theories as long as man lives (by the way, since you're so smart exactly what new GENUS or Family can we expect to MUTATE into????
Great stuff! You guys kill me! You must all meet at Patrick Henry's hovel and sniff glue before posting! Keep up the good work!

Evolution is fact, but is there an explanatory theory that explains it all? Once upon a time, it was said that life came from matter. But what is matter?
