From the standpoint of: Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

She may indeed have deeply cared for gorillas, yes.

HOWEVER... She went into Rwanda like a typical white colonialist, and acted WORSE than one. Beating the native africans with stinging nettles, making them believe she was a witch to try and scare them off the land, destroying their traps and snares, and shooting their cattle...

I am about as far from a bleeding heart as you can get, but her actions were absolutely a case of the road to hell being paved with good intentions.

There comes a certain point, where any sympathy she might have engendered is completely lost. In a struggle between wildlife preservation, and the basic survival of poor and desperate people, the wildlife is just an obstacle, and Dian likewise made herself into an even bigger obstacle that, sooner or later WAS going to be removed.
