Envision this scenario:
I’m with my hypothetical beloved, having a nice spaghetti dinner at a higher-end Italian-American restaurant. I’m ready to propose. I get on one knee and pull out the ring and pop question No. 1.
Beloved: (with tears of joy) Yes!
Me, with question No. 2: You want to go halvesies on the ring? I really could use the help.
Beloved: Unloads plate of half-eaten spaghetti upon my face.
So there were a bunch of people with strong opinions on the internet.
I could really, truly help them buy a ring. The sad fact is almost no one will take the suggestion that I can help and no one ever asks advice on how to do so, even though I’ve let people know I can help them. I have decided that ignorance can almost not be overcome.

Around here I pay all the bills then get bitched at for spending too much money.

And in doing so, amply demonstrated that she doesn’t deserve that ring or that man.
The guy is still the one who pays for everything, who loses half of his possessions in a divorce, and who is passed over in college admission and hiring for jobs. But his suitability as a marriage partner depends on his financial status.
But he is an oppressor, sexist, etc.

Hmmmm...get his half, 3,300, and tell him she’ll buy the ring. Then take a NICE solo vacation and send him the vacation photos in a Thank You Card.

I really dislike it when spouses insult each other in public. So, yes, this is a bad sign.
