The ONLY place you should expect any privacy is in an abortion clinic.

I have 2 co-workers as FB “friends” - so I make sure NOT to mention that I am searching for another job! Don’t want it getting back to my boss.

The problem is — they’re all on freaking Monday. With the exception of Burn Notice ... the rest of the week, I’m stuck with my wife’s shows.

God love her, she doesn’t have the best taste in television shows — Idol, Biggest Loser, Glee (holy crap what a terrible show), Army wives (which is pretty much like The Unit, just without all the good stuff), etc. Actually, I’m probably too hard on her ... she watches all the same stuff I do as well, she just adds a few I’d rather skip.

Some on my ping list say they’re able to do a lot of good in facebook. Maybe so. There’s a lot of flak to being effective in FR. I considered facebook as a sideline. But I’m so darn busy as it is.

That’s why I’m careful - my status is not visible to anyone but friends...and the most “risque” I get is a political rant (which can hurt therefore it’s private).

I guess you missed the incident where Facebook mistakenly misdirected thousands of private messages sent through its system, to people who were complete strangers to the senders.

I must have. But as I said, I never say or do anything in Facebook that involves anything that I value as being highly private.

If my private messages on Facebook got out, the worst that people would see would be things like "Are you XYZ from ABC high school?" or "Hi how are you! LTNS!"

Use The Green Safe to Protect Yourself On FaceBook.

http://apps.facebook.com/thegreensafe/index.php

As Facebook explains, “Keep in mind that Facebook Pages you connect to are public. You can control which friends are able to see connections listed on your profile, but you may still show up on Pages you’re connected to.” Facebook further explains, “While you do have the option to hide your Friend List from being visible on your profile, it will be available to applications you use and websites you connect with using Facebook.” Facebook reserves the right to share information that it deems public with its business partners and third party websites, regardless of your visibility settings.

I prefer keeping a low profile on the Interwebs. I like being hard to find. I don’t necessarily *want* everybody I’ve ever known to “stay in touch”. If I wanted to stay in touch with somebody... I already do. The rest, well... good luck. :-)

I remember when I tried to delete an AOL account. The conversation went like this:

“I would like to close this AOL account”.

“No”

“What do you mean, no? I’d like to close the account.”

“No”

“I want to close the account!”

“No, I’m not going to let you close it.”

“You have to let me close it!”

“No I don’t.”

And onwards.

I had that with an ISP, I kept telling them to cancel and they just couldn’t seem to do it. So I canceled the card it was being billed on, then they called me and I got to play the game with them “we need a new card” “no you don’t” “you need to pay us” “no I don’t”.

So, you’re judging something with which you have absolutely zero experience? How MSNBC of you!

My Facebook experience has improved since I deleted everything from the Favorite Author, Books, Music, Hobby, etc. sections. Far fewer popup ads/links.

LOL.

No, actually I spend way too much time there. I’m trying to work up the gumption to “deactivate” my FB account and start doing something more productive.

I can’t connect to FB today, is the server down or overwhelmed or is it just me?
