There's several families in my area that have done just that. I'm in a rural community but not in the real remote boonies. I can get to a major grocery store, major chain big box store, or even the hospital in 15-20 minutes.

The families are home schoolers and have anywhere from 5-15 kids usually. One family has been on national TV a few times. The kids I've interacted with from these families are very well taught and are aware of what's going on. They're well mannered and trustworthy as well. Their lives aren't free of modern technology but they do live a more simple life. Their kids have grown and become active in the community such as VFD and a few even local politics. They seem to be doing well.

A man named Paul Weyrich nailed it with two letters he wrote. At the time they prompted outrage among some conservatives but he makes some good points. Weyrich was co-founder of The Moral Majority. A previous FR Thread on Weyrich's Letters He was right in 1999 when he wrote it and time has shown him to be correct. In a very real sense the ones I mentioned seeing in my neighborhood are doing such. Even in my own dealings & purchases I'll try and support business that support my values first.

One trend I have seen as of late is disturbing. Mothers in their late 20's to mid 30's abandoning their children for boyfriends. The BF's in these cases are usually trash and preditors too boot. Child Protective Services becomes involved due to child abuse. What makes it worse is our legal system and even the agencies who should be protecting kids caught up in such situations are enablers themselves and apologist for parents doing such to their children.
