I attended public school in East Baton Rouge Parish school district, where forced busing is the law of the land. Any school district that allows you to go to your neighborhood school is okay with me. Until you are ripped from your suburban school and bussed against your will to an inner city school where the makeup is 98% black, like I was, then you don’t know what I’m talking about. I had zero friends, unless you count bullies as friends.
I can only comment on Seattle and Shoreline school districts vs homeschooling. I don’t have any personal experience with the area around Ft. Lewis. We didn’t use a specific program but many different options. I prefer to make my own program. Feel free to contact send me by email if you want to discuss homeschooling options. It is relatively easy in Washington State.
I know exactly what you’re talking about. Some of the assignments we would be like “What’s the point?!” LOL!
Say WA? Evergreen State ping

FReepmail sionnsar if you want on or off this ping list.
Ping sionnsar if you see a Washington state related thread.
We live in the Gig Harbor area and the schools are definitely liberal. My child has had to deal with bullies also. We are going to put her in private school when she gets into the 6th grade.
Any time my daughter brings home some liberal propaganda from school, my husband and I go over and and debunk it with her on the computer.
As long as you are able to give your child answers to the liberal crap they teach at school, your child should be ok.
We also had to supplement my daughter’s math and reading.
The school in my area also has a damn late start wednesday. The kids start an hour later on that day so the teachers can have their weekly conferences.
Thanks!
(My husband started giving her math lessons at home.)
Seattle suburb here. The teacher’s were not allowed to teach the kids their basic math facts. All through grade school my wife would go down twice a week to “math assist”. Well, really - she was going over the math memorization facts with two classes. The kids would get to leave class for a bit to work with her and they would get fact sheets from her to memorize.
The teachers and the principal were all for it. The school district didn’t know.
I’ve found that in spite of the public schooling with it’s problems, if you stay involved and pick up the slack once in awhile (like the math facts), and give the conservative viewpoints it is okay. My one daughter has to do a presentation on “Earth Day”. Part of it will be on how hunting helps conservation and the animals. (Pretty sure her teacher isn’t expecting that!)
Are you from Kentucky?
We moved from there three years ago. I really miss it. I miss the lovely hot weather and thunder storms. I miss the schools there too. We lived in Scott county and they had a great school there. Manners were mandatory for the students. It was so nice to hear the children say, “yes ma’am”.
We currently live in Kentucky, but we are not from here. Military family, so we move a lot. Lived in Virginia before here, and the weather was fairly similar. I think Washington weather is going to be quite a change!
HA....add money in for your Vitamin D3 budget....you’ll need at least 5000iu a day...all year. (I’m originally from north of where you are moving...Kent.) When the sun shines, though, it’s the most beautiful place to be.
PS, that’s 5000iu per person per day....(well, the little kiddies might not need quite as much)
We weren’t military but we moved around as well. AK, Michigan and the UK before Kentucky. The weather in the Seattle area is rainy for most of the year. Moss is a real problem if you rent or buy a house because it grows on the roof. If you rent an apartment, check for mold. Even some of the nicest places have had problems.
When you get settled, you have to take a trip to go see Mt. Saint Helens. Its really neat. The Puyallup fair is fun to go to in the fall and they have other events all year round like the gun show.
If you go up to Bremerton you can take the ferry over to Seattle. Its an hour trip but you get to see the area and on a clear day Mount Rainier..
Good Luck with your move!
Pierce County - avoid like the plague.
Bethel district is the Worst. Ever.
You’ll be near us, so look me up if you need something or even just to meet.
My condolences.
Thanks! I’m not too happy about it, either. LOL!
It's a beautiful state, admittedly, but not the only beautiful state.
Agreed. Kinda stuck until DH retires, though. Not too much longer now.
