We are on the same page basically my FRiend. There are some situations, however, where all the parenting in the world will make little difference. To me, this case feels that way.

Dear Lord this sounds exactly like my son. They keep sending him home without helping him.

May God bless and keep you and the author of this piece. It’s difficult enough these days to raise a child without these problems. May your burdens lessen as he grows older.

I grew up around friends who were the products of divorced women and single mothers. The mother was almost always awarded custody, whether a fit parent or not. Mom hated dad with a passion, and as a result would shut dad out completely, and viewed discipline as an attack on herself. The son would sense this and would run roughshod over the mother, completely going wild, and mom would would overcompensate, and let the boy get away with murder, while blaming the whole mess on the father. This scenario applied only to the boys, girls were a completely different matter. This is just what I saw growing up, and even then, my parents would not allow me to socialize with the kides I just described, they were considered trouble.

The chick that publishes on this blog is a flaming lib. The phenomenon you describe may be at work here. However, her kid has profound disabilities. Assigning moral hazard to the causation, when the hazard is at best an exacerbating factor confuses the discussion about how to best treat the disabled. Shifting the focus does not add to our ability to recognize a mental health problem. It detracts. JMHO
